Cuenca joins the European rally-raid motorcycle elite and will host a round of the 2026 European Baja Championship
· The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme Europe confirms the inclusion of Rallye TT Cuenca in a 2026 calendar made up of five events across three countries.
· The continental championship strengthens its structure with the addition of a new Spanish venue.
The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme Europe has officially announced a historic milestone for Spanish off-road motorcycling: for the first time, Rallye TT Cuenca will form part of the continental series as a points-scoring round.
The inclusion of the Cuenca event recognises years of technical and sporting work by the local organisation, led by Víctor Alijas, president of Club Cuenca Motor 4x4 and promoter of the rally, who has consistently defended the suitability of the Cuenca region to host top-level international competitions.
With its entry into the championship, Cuenca joins the select group of European venues that make up the Baja circuit, consolidating Spain as one of the pillars of the calendar alongside Italy and Portugal.
A Compact and Competitive Championship
The 2026 European Baja Championship will consist of five events held across some of the most demanding and spectacular landscapes in southern Europe.
The Castilla-La Mancha round will feature a route characterised by fast tracks, forest sections and technical navigation sectors, creating a setting that will test the adaptability of both riders and teams. The event will take place from 7 to 10 May.
Víctor Alijas: “Cuenca Was Ready”
Víctor Alijas, the event organiser, also underlined the impact the round will have on the discipline’s profile: “The European Baja Championship needs authentic venues with character, and Cuenca offers exactly that. Our commitment now is to live up to the challenge and deliver a demanding, safe and spectacular race for riders and fans.”
International Projection and Sporting Return
The addition of Rallye TT Cuenca to the European championship strengthens Spain’s presence on the international off-road stage and opens up new opportunities for sporting, tourism and economic promotion in the region.
Key Names on the European Motorcycle Grid
In recent seasons, the European Baja Championship has featured a strong line-up of rally-raid specialists who alternate between national, European and even world-level competitions. Among the most regular names in the motorcycle category are Spain’s Joan Pedrero, with extensive international rally-raid experience and a frequent Baja front-runner, and Lorenzo Santolino, a navigation specialist and competitive rider in technical terrain.
There will also be the chance to see Rui Gonçalves, a leading Portuguese off-road rider with experience in motocross and rally; Slovakia’s Toni Mulec, noted for his consistency; and Italy’s Jacopo Cerutti, a versatile rider and regular contender in continental off-road endurance events.
The presence of these and other riders confirms the growing sporting level of the championship and points towards a high-quality international entry for the Cuenca round.
