No less a legend than the two-time Dakar Rally winner Nani Roma returns to the HunGarian Baja, this time with the M-Sport team. Only three people can claim to have won both on a motorbike and in a car in the world’s most prestigious off-road rally, and Nani Roma is one of them. The Spanish rider made his debut with a stage win in 1996, celebrated his first overall win with a KTM in 2004, and won with a MINI X-Raid ten years later. This year, he will be making his 27th start in the desert chase.

Nani Roma is a returning competitor for the HunGarian Baja, winning the 10th and 15th editions of the race. The 2013 Hungarian race was dominated by a battle between two MINIs, with the Spanish successfully extending his lead in the final stage to finish 42 seconds faster than Krzysztof Holowczyc. In 2018, the fundamentally technical track was particularly difficult, with rainy, muddy conditions making it tough for the competitors, but even then, no one could catch him. He also has a special memory of Hungary, where he took his first race win on a dirt bike in 1994.

For the 21st HunGarian Baja, Nani Roma will arrive with the M-Sport team to test the new 2025 Ford Raptor. „It is a great pleasure to be involved in this huge project, and with such an iconic motorsport brand as Ford! I am very happy to be surrounded by super dedicated and talented engineers, mechanics, and the rest of the team,” Roma said.

With 7 championships, 64 wins, and 271 podiums in the FIA World Rally Championship, M-Sport is one of the strongest teams in the series and Ford’s largest manufacturer, with a presence in every series of the FIA rally pyramid. In 2024, they will also tackle the Dakar Rally for the first time, and by 2025, they will be taking a completely new level of technology to the desert marathon with a state-of-the-art Ford Raptor. „The scale of our ambition for off-road rallying is unparalleled in Ford’s recent history. The Ford Raptor is already showing promising signs in testing, and having two of the world’s best drivers with us in the race gives us confidence for future developments,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsport.

No less a figure than Nani Roma and Carlos Sainz will be behind the wheel, and the car will continue to be tested at the HunGarian Baja. Nani Roma will be competing in the Hungarian race in the European Cup grid, but as he will be driving the 2025 car, he will be running outside the evaluation under the rules.
