After winning in 2022, the Italian Baja remains a special event for Erik van Loon. This year, Van Loon once again wants to fight for overall victory in the SSV category, with Wouter Rosegaar alongside him. With the Can-Am Maverick R, that should certainly be possible. The Italian Baja takes place from 25 to 28 June.

“We are going all out for the win,” says Erik. “We know the speed is there; sometimes we just need a little bit of luck on our side. The rally is quite intense, especially with all the stones there, but it has always suited me well. Together with Wouter, we are really going to focus and aim to be at the front from the very first metres. We have now contested two events and finished in the top five each time, so we know it can be done.”

The Italian Baja starts on Thursday, 25 June, with scrutineering and the shakedown. On Friday, a short prologue is scheduled, after which the starting positions will be determined. On Saturday, four long stages are planned, covering a total distance of 320 kilometres. On Sunday, a further 100 kilometres will be driven at speed.

“It is a lot of kilometres over three days, but that is actually a good thing. You need to get into the right flow straight away, and we know we can do that.”
