Nuno Matos faces symbolic CPTT season with renewed ambition
Nuno Matos is set to return to the Portuguese Off-Road Championship (CPTT), kicking off a new season with clearly defined goals and a special sense of motivation.
After a previous campaign marked by several setbacks, the driver approaches 2026 with a clear strategy: to build a more solid, consistent and competitive season, turning potential into steady results throughout the calendar.
“Our main objective is to deliver a more consistent season. We know the pace is there, but in off-road racing reliability is crucial. We want to be regularly fighting for the top 10 and to finish events, because that’s what builds confidence and allows you to aim even higher,” he underlines.
The CPTT calendar once again features demanding challenges across different regions of the country, with natural emphasis on the Baja Portalegre 500, an iconic event that holds special meaning for Nuno Matos, both for its prestige and for his personal and emotional connection to the race.
The 2026 season also carries particular symbolic value in the driver’s career, as he celebrates 30 uninterrupted seasons in off-road racing, 20 years since winning his first National Championship title (T8), and 10 years since being crowned Portuguese Overall Off-Road Champion. These milestones reflect a career defined by excellence and longevity in the sport. Over three decades, Nuno Matos has secured five national titles — three T8 National Championships, one T2 National Championship, one T1 & Overall National Championship — as well as an international title, the FIA Baja Cup (T2).
“These are numbers that naturally make me very proud. They represent decades of work, challenges and achievements, but above all a huge passion for off-road racing. Remaining competitive after so many years gives me even more motivation to approach this season with ambition and the desire to keep evolving,” he adds.
Throughout the season, Nuno Matos will once again be joined by navigator Ricardo Claro, forming an experienced partnership with deep knowledge of the discipline’s demands. The driver also extends his thanks to all partners and sponsors who continue to believe in the project.
The new CPTT season gets underway at the end of February, with Nuno Matos competing in the Baja Montes Alentejanos, the first challenge of a campaign approached with renewed ambition and full focus on consistency from the outset.
