Raid da Ferraria 2024: Portuguese championships returns with 150 entries at the XXXVI Raid Ferraria
Info: Raid da Ferraria is a race valid for the Moto, Quad and SSV Portuguese championships. The 2024 edition will, for the first time in its history, have cars, but their race will be an extra-championship, and the participants will not score any points.
This race will use many tracks know from Baja Portalegre and Portugal Rally-Raid, making from it an excellent opportunity to test for the W2RC and FIA Baja Championships
The Mini Baja Championship, the YXZ 1000R Cup, the returning Polaris Trophy and the new Villain Cup Trophy animate the third round of the season
After Alentejo and Beira litoral, the municipalities of Abrantes, Gavião and Ponte de Sor will host the third round of the National Cross-Country Championship. There are 150 entrants, divided between the Moto (46), Quad (21), SSV (66) and Mini Baja (17) disciplines, who will face a course with a total of 312 timed kilometers spread over a 6 km prologue and two 153 km selective sectors. Martim Ventura, on a Husqvarna, on equal points with António Maio on a Yamaha in the motorcycles, Luis Fernandes on a Yamaha in the Quad and Pedro Santinho Mendes, navigated by Duarte Santos, on a Can-Am in the SSV, lead the respective CNTT disciplines.
On two wheels, Martim Ventura, winner of the opening race, and National Champion António Maio are on equal points and their main opponents will be Bruno Santos on a Husqvarna, the returning Gustavo Gaudêncio on a Honda and Micael Simão on a GasGas. They will be joined by the likes of Fábio Magalhães, João Duarte, Tomás Dias, Gonçalo and Salvador Amaral, all on Honda, the brothers Bernardo and David Megre on Kawasaki and Bruno Borrego on Sherco.
In the Quad class, where champion Luís Fernandes leads, João Vale on a Can-Am and young Rodrigo Alves on a Yamaha will be the main challengers. As he was injured in the Yamaha Trophy race last weekend, Tomás Paulo is unlikely to be present.
In the SSVs, where Pedro Santinho Mendes dominates after winning the first two races, former champion Roberto Borrego returns and will be a very strong opponent. With Pedro Pinha and Vasco Martins occupying the next positions in the championship, the fight for the top positions should also include names such as Luís Cidade, Nelson Caxias, Sergio Batista and Pedro Grancha, all in Can-Am.
The XXXVI Raid Ferraria also marks the return of the Polaris Trophy, with eight teams, including former winners such as Tiago Guerreiro and Alexandre Silva and the current veteran champion Arnaldo Monteiro. The race organized by Clube Ferraria will also be the second round of the Yamaha YXZ1000R Cup, in which six teams will compete, with Rafael Caseiro, winner of the Stock Class in the opening round, standing out.
The Villain Cup Trophy for SSV Segway will make its debut in this race, with André Rodrigues in particular.
Also returning is the Mini Baja, with Domingos Cunha on a Yamaha, Gustavo Pitschiller on a KTM and Santiago Pereira on a Yamaha, respectively in the Youth, Beginners and Children's classes, leading the championship.
The XXXVI Raid Ferraria takes place between April 26 and 28. The prologue will take place on Friday, right after the usual technical and administrative checks, while the first stage will be held on Saturday, April 27. In the second stage, held on Sunday, the competitors will make a second pass through the 153km timed section covered the day before.
