Raid of the Champions 2024: The final cross-country rally of the season is fast approaching
From 7-9 November, the season-closing race of the Hungarian Rally-Raid Championship, the Hunguest Raid of the Champions, will start. The excitement is palpable, as the championship titles will be decided here in both CEZ and Hungarian categories, with the exception of one or two groups.
The competitors will cover a total of 583.22 km over two days, of which the real chase will take place on a 373.22 km long selective section of gravel and dirt. The administrative and technical handovers will take place on the mornings of 7 and 8 November, before the peloton sets off for the first 3 stages on Friday afternoon. The majority of the distance will be covered on Saturday, over 4 special stages and 280 km. The race headquarters will be located in the Village Hall in Sáska, where the race office will be located, as well as the collection and service park.
"I am happy that we have moved to Sáska and it is great that the mayor is helping us with everything. The race centre will be in a cute, small village setting, with a partial view of the speedway. The surroundings are beautiful, and we hope that unlike last year, we will have a sunny race," said Zoltán Garamvölgyi, the race organiser.
Not only the competitors but also the spectators can expect an outstandingly enjoyable and spectacular Hunguest-ROC. The highlight for spectators will be the undulating, big jump section alongside the old favourite Újdörögdi asphalt road, where the field will race through all the fast stages on Saturday. In addition, the start of the Saturday stages will be a circuit, which will also be a great place to watch.
"I know exactly what it's like to race in bright sunshine and pouring rain on the ROC. The nice weather adds a sensational extra to the race and we hope to experience that again this year. We know well the opposite from recent years, the rainy, depressing face when everything is damp and wet. You need a lot of willpower to complete the course. I'm incredibly keen to win, it's my favourite race, I know almost every metre of the course, although I'm not writing and controlling the route this year." - said Zoltán Garamvölgyi.
The Hunguest Raid of the Champions will welcome new, renowned names in 2024: the Hunguest hotel chain has joined the event as a title sponsor, and Jet Power has also joined the Hungarian cross-country rally as a sponsor. In addition, Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Regional Development, has been appointed as patron of the event.
In 2024, the Hunguest-ROC will be held as a round of the FIA Central European Zone (CEZ) and the Italian Off-Road Rally Championship, in addition to the domestic event. After the Hungarian field travelled to Pordenone for the Italian Bajara in July, the Italian drivers will now be able to compete in one of the most popular off-road rally events in the country.
The spectator points for the Hunguest Raid of the Champions, which will take place from 7-9 October, will be announced on 6 October, and for constant updates, it is worth following the Hungarian cross-country rally's social media pages.
