Rally TT Mar de Olivos 2024: Carnicer-Peinado and Morillo-Nieto swim to victory in the Mar de Olivos
The Spanish Off-Road Rally Championship Loterías started and it couldn't have been done in a better way than with the sixth edition of the Rally TT Jaén Mar de Olivos, an event that returned last year to the calendar, and this season moved its headquarters to the city of Úbeda.
The race had a somewhat different format than usual, and as happened last season held on Friday only the verifications and the starting ceremony. On Saturday an almost marathon stage was disputed, with the prologue early in the morning, and a super special of one hundred kilometers that was repeated twice; completing the test a final special on Sunday morning.
The Andalusian teams shone at great height in the CERTT test. The victory in both the Andalusian and national SSV category of the FAA-sponsored team of Mario Morillo del Río and David Nieto, with Polaris RZR; a category where the JMP Racing team from Seville of Edesio Caamaño and Carmelo Moliné climbed to second place on the CARTT podium and finished in fourth place in the Spanish Championship. The third place in the regional Syde by Syde went to Juan Lopez and Patricio Perez.
On the other hand in TT category, regional podium for Fede Mogni and David Aguado, Rafa Muñoz and Daniel Cámara of the FAA team were second and third Miguel Valero and Raquel Cecilia. The Malaga also got the second podium in the category of female co-drivers.
In the final general classification of the CERTT it is also worth mentioning the third place in TT of Fede Mogni, who in turn achieved the victory in the T4 category; and the fifth place of Rafa Muñoz from Granada, also in TT and T4.
The local rider Fidel Castillo could only be fifth in the T4 category. Finally, in the T3 final, the sixth place of the Sevillian team of José Maria Naranjo and José Antonio Álvarez, from the JMP Racing club, should be highlighted.
A weekend of emotions
Santiago Carnicer and Sergio Peinado were the fastest in the first stage with their Toyota Hilux, demonstrating why they are the current champions and were two minutes ahead of the local Fidel Castillo, who was again accompanied by Marc Solá. Félix Macías and José Luis Conde completed the first three places of this day, just over five minutes behind the driver from Castellón.
In Side by Side the first day ended with Mario Morillo and David Jesús Nieto with his Polaris leading with just over three minutes over Jorge Vecino and Pablo Izcue. Third place and the lead in the Yamaha YXZ 1000R Cup went to Edesio Caamaño and Carmelo Moliné, just four tenths of a second place.
With the first rays of sunshine, the last day of the race began, in which Santiago Carnicer and Sergio Peinado consolidated their lead and took the victory in TT Cars in their debut as champions of the Spanish Off-Road Rally Championship. The second final position was for Enrique Reyes and Jaqueline Ricci with their VM Competición with which they won the last meeting of 2023 in Cuenca. This second position was inherited after a last stage that took its toll on Castillo-Solá and Macías-Conde, the former losing more than an hour and the latter having to abandon in the first kilometers of the special stage.
The podium was completed by the Andalusians Federico Mogni and David Aguado, who were very fast with their Polaris, in a very satisfactory weekend for the team with great results. Completing the top five positions in TT Cars were David Asensio and José Manuel Mata in fourth position, and Rafael Muñoz and Daniel Cámara in fifth place.
Among the Side by Side, Mario Morillo and David Jesús Nieto increased their advantage obtained on Saturday and took their first victory in the category at the controls of their Polaris. Jorge Vecino and Pablo Izcue were second, more than seven minutes from the victory, completing the podium Juan Gasso and Guillem Godayol, who also took the victory in the Yamaha YXZ 1000R Cup. The Japanese single-brand podium was closed by Edesio Caamaño and Carmelo Moliné, second; and Francisco Javier Castro and Eduard Ferran in third place.
The victory in the Spanish All-Terrain Regularity Rally Cup went to Juan Escribano Molinero and Juan Escribano Gómez, with the champions of 2023, José Antonio Guerra and Xavier Ribas in second place and Lyubomyr Shandra and Irene Roures closing the first three positions.
In the different categories, Carnicer-Peinado won in T1, Maria Luis Gameiro and Jose Marques in T1+, Alberto Dorsch and Marcos Martinez in T2, Reyes-Ricci in T3, and Mogni-Aguado in T4. In T1N, Jorge Pelechano and Tabatha Romón won; in T8, Raúl Ortiz and Raúl Ortiz (CD Automovil Club Sol y Nieve); in Female Drivers, the fastest was Maria Gameiro, and in Female Co-Drivers, Jaqueline Ricci.
As usual, the Parabaja Step by Step was again part of this test, with five teams that gave everything, and enjoyed the stretches between olive groves in the province of Jaén.
The next round of the Loterías CERTT will take place on May 2, 3 and 4 with a new edition of the Baja TT Dehesa de Extremadura.
