The 2026 Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Season Gets Underway!
The 2026 M1 Flotta Hungarian National Cross-Country Rally Championship kicks off in Bugac with the Desert Express 300. Taking place on March 20–21, the event will open the domestic off-road season for the third consecutive year, and in 2026 it promises exciting new features not only for competitors but also for fans.
Thanks to a partnership with Magyar Telekom, the cross-country rally experience will now be brought directly to fans at home. The entire event will be broadcast live on the Telekom Live YouTube channel, allowing viewers to follow not only the on-track action but also behind-the-scenes moments. Alongside content, insights and updates published on the official rally platforms, fans will now be able to follow the Desert Express 300 in real time.
The rally headquarters will once again be located at the Aranymonostor Visitor Centre in Bugac, with the service park built around it. The venue will also host the Mini Baja track for young rally enthusiasts, where they can train in a real racing environment alongside the main competitors using Polaris vehicles.
There are also some changes to the schedule compared to previous years. Competitors will cover a total of 332 kilometres over two days on sandy terrain. While last year followed the American Baja format, with all competitive action taking place on Saturday, this year Friday will play a more active role. Administrative and technical scrutineering will begin in the morning, followed by an optional shakedown test. The race itself will start in the afternoon with a shorter opening stage, the results of which will determine the starting order for Saturday’s main stage.
The popular horse track section, which previously featured only in the first stage, will now be included in every lap, providing even more action for spectators. In addition, several spectator points will be designated, with details to be published during race week.
To make cross-country rallying more accessible for new participants, from 2026 competitors in the UP category will no longer need to obtain a racing licence. Instead, they will only need to pass a rules knowledge test before the event. This change not only simplifies entry into the sport but also reduces costs for newcomers.
One thing is certain: the 2026 M1 Flotta Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Championship promises excitement, innovation and unforgettable moments for everyone.
