VILNIUS, LITHUANIA. The Baltics' highest-ranking driver in the Ultimate category, Benediktas Vanagas, is returning to the European stage. Benediktas Vanagas, leader of one of Dakar rally fastest privateer teams, has officially confirmed a full-season campaign in the FIA European Baja Cup. For the Gurtam Toyota Gazoo Racing Baltics team, this is more than a new season - it is a quest to finish what they started.
Unfinished Business
The team's return is fueled by a dominant, albeit brief, performance last season. Despite competing in only four rounds, the Vanagas-Paliukėnas duo left the series as the outright leaders of the 'Ultimate' category and held second place in the absolute standings.
In 2026, the objective is to maintain that dominance across a full six-round scoring campaign. The goal is no longer just stage wins; it is the overall European title.
The Long Game: 8 Rounds, 6 Shots
The 2026 format has evolved. The FIA has reverted to an eight-round calendar, but only a driver's six best results will count.
It is a move designed to slash costs and boost competitiveness, turning the season into a tactical chess match. For Vanagas, it’s a game of consistency. To win the Cup, the Gurtam Toyota Gazoo Racing Baltics crew must balance raw speed with mechanical survival across the most demanding trails in Europe.
The Rocks of Cuenca
The first action begins with Spain’s Baja TT Cuenca on May 7–9. Unlike the open sands of the Dakar, this is "hard" rallying. Competitors face thick dust, narrow canyon paths, and jagged rocks where any error leads to an impact.
"I am no newcomer to the European Cup, but Cuenca is new territory," Vanagas admitted. "We will have to go the extra mile to match the locals on their home turf."
