New SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD class to debut at King Shocks 38th SCORE San Felipe 250
The new class is exclusive for SCORE Trophy Truck with two-wheel drive and will be part of the qualifying for all SCORE events
ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico – In the 52nd season of SCORE International, a new class emerges: SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD, which is exclusive for SCORE Trophy Truck with two-wheel drive. This class will come into effect starting with the 38th King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250, the first round of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship, which will take place from April 2 to 6 in the fishing port of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
With this new class, there will be 3 different classes in “The Desert Monsters”: SCORE Trophy Truck, SCORE Trophy Truck Legend, and SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD. The latter means that the truck cannot have AWD, and its numbers will range from 1T to 99T, with the letter "T" added to distinguish it from the other two classes by SCORE International officials.
SCORE International offers racers with two-wheel drive the option to choose whether to race in the SCORE Trophy Truck class or participate in the new SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD. AWD trucks will not be allowed to participate in the new SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD class in any of the SCORE races.
The four rounds of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship will be points-paying, but only for this year. If a team is not ready to race in the 38th edition of the King Shocks San Felipe 250 from April 2 to 6, racing the following 3 SCORE races will allow them to compete for the annual championship.
Race teams already registered for the SCORE San Felipe 250 in the SCORE Trophy Trucks category can request to switch to the SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD by sending an email to
The SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD class will be part of the 4 qualifying rounds of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship, giving the opportunity to start each race among the fastest racers from classes such as SCORE Trophy Truck and SCORE Trophy Truck Legend.
VILDOSOLA RACING, THE MEXICAN FORCE
Gustavo Vildosola Sr. and Gustavo 'Tavo' Vildosola Junior will be part of SCORE 52nd season, both aiming for the checkered flag in the 38th King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250. Round One of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship will take place from April 2 to 6 in the picturesque port of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
'Gus' Vildosola, 71, Mexicali, Baja California, will be behind the wheel of his Vildosola Racing No. 1L Ford Raptor Mason AWD, racing through the extreme deserts of San Felipe, Baja California, accompanied in this endeavor by Supercross legend Ricky Johnson, 60, of El Cajon, California. They are the current three-time champions in this special marquee class for SCORE Trophy Truck drivers over 50 years old.
Pre-race Contingency and Tech Inspection and the start/finish line compound will be located on the picturesque El Malecon in San Felipe along the inspiring azure waters of the Sea of Cortez.
San Felipe is 125 miles south of the U.S. Border at Calexico, Calif. on the eastern side of the Baja peninsula. All four 2025 SCORE races will be held on Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula for the 10th consecutive year.
VILDOSOLA AND JOHNSON, THE RIVALS TO BEAT
Gustavo ´Gus´ Vildosola Sr. and Ricky Johnson have an impressive streak in SCORE with 12 consecutive wins, including their three-time championship in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend class, thanks to the preparation work by Andres 'Lechero' Rodriguez on the Vildosola Racing No. 1L Mason AWD, along with the efforts of their navigators, Victor Valenzuela and Nicolas Ambriz.
In 2024, Vildosola and Johnson celebrated at the top of the podium in the SCORE San Felipe 250, SCORE Baja 500, SCORE Baja 400, and SCORE Baja 1000, also winning the 2024 SCORE Rod Hall Milestone Award, presented by Toyota Escondido. This award is given each season to the drivers who complete all the miles during the season of the SCORE series.
“It is an honor to represent Mexico in the SCORE International races, to race in San Felipe, which feels like our second home,” said Vildosola. “It is something very special to us. We do a lot of our testing there with our SCORE Trophy Truck. We’ve won the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend championship four times, the last three consecutive, so I congratulate my entire team who made this achievement possible.”
With six wins, 'Gus' is one of the Mexican drivers with the most victories in the history of the SCORE San Felipe 250, including two overall wins in 2003 and 2013, the first alongside Rob MacCachren, and the second with his son, Gustavo 'Tavo' Vildosola Jr. His other four wins were in 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2024, all in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend class.
‘TAVO’, A NATURAL BORN BAJA CHAMPION
Gustavo 'Tavo' Vildosola Jr. 42, Mexicali, Baja California, is a favorite among Mexican off-road fans. A few weeks ago, he was conducting various tests in his Vildosola Racing Ford Raptor No. 21 Mason AWD, in the deserts of San Felipe, alongside the mechanics of the Vildosola Racing team.
Vildosola Jr. has won the SCORE San Felipe 250 six times (1996, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2014, 2015). Three of those victories were overall wins for him. He finished second in the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship with 507 points, just one point behind the champion, Alan Ampudia, Ensenada, Baja California.
In 2024, 'Tavo' finished third in the SCORE San Felipe 250 within the SCORE Trophy Truck, remembering that he is one of four Mexicans to have won this race in the 'Monsters of the Desert', alongside Juan Carlos Ibarra (1998), Gustavo Vildosola Sr. (2003, 2013), and Alan Ampudia (2024).
