Rally dos Sertões 2023: Sertões sees new victory of Moraes and Bentivoglio, who maintain their advantage.

Navigators were the stars of the day on the stretch of 174 kilometers against the clock between Pernambuco and Bahia

Current champions of the BRB Sertões Rally, the duo Lucas Moraes/Kaique Bentivoglio continues to promote an impeccable campaign in search of their third title in the main race of the national off-road. On board a Toyota GR Hilux DKR T1+ model, the duo won for the second consecutive time one of the specials of the race, which will end on August 16th, after a total of eight days of competition. On Saturday's special, Moraes and Bentivoglio had already opened an important nine-minute advantage for the second-placed. And this Sunday, the leaders not only won, but also managed to maintain their advantage in exactly 09:10, considered a good start after only two days of trial.
But the second placement went to the Century Racing CR6-T of the duo Marcelo Gastaldi/Cadu Sachs, which this Sunday reached the second position. According to Lucas Moraes, the highlight of the day was the work of the navigators. "There by km 30 or 40, more or less, I have never seen the Kaique speak so much," he joked, referring to the indications provided by Bentivoglio on the route ahead. "But he got it all right. It makes my job, my confidence much easier. It was very good, excellent," he praised. On the test, Moraes again highlighted the level of difficulty. "It was another stage for grown men," he defined. "This year’s Sertões is showing that it’s really going to be tough. Despite being short, today, we had a special difficult and treacherous, easy to get a flat tire. But the most important thing was that we went well, with the car on the track, without any tires. We didn't have to get out of the car for anything," he explained.
"In fact, it was a "well-navigated" day. One of the most complex navigations I've ever done in that car. Lucas walked a lot, we did a perfect test, everything fits", agreed Kaique Bentivoglio.

This Monday, the Sertões caravan leaves again in Petrolina, in Pernambuco, but now for Xique-Xique, in Bahia, where it will spend the night. The long special, – 407-kilometer timed stretch – will be the first leg of the marathon stage in which the competitors cannot count on the assistance of the teams in case of technical problems. "Now, we have a very important moment of the rally, which promises to be quite difficult too. But we are working day by day," Moraes commented.
The double champion of the Sertões has the support of Toyota Gazoo Racing, Red Bull, SpeedMax (PneuStore), Zapälla, Strava and Sparco. The Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+ from Moraes and Bentivoglio is operated in Brazil by the MEM Motorsports team, with the support of experts from Belgian Overdrive Racing, and is defended by them in international races. Rally dos Sertões 2023: Baumgart brothers focus on marathon stages

Cristian and Marcos Baumgart point to the next two days as determinants in Sertões 2023

This Sunday (13) of Father's Day, the duo faced a total of 246 kilometers, consisting of 72km of displacements and 174km timed, leaving from Petrolina, in Pernambuco, passing by Juremal, in Bahia and returning to Petrolina in fourth position with Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti and sixth with Marcos Baumhart and Kleber Cincea.

In the accumulated Sertões 2023, Cristian and Beco follow in the vice lead, 12 minutes behind the leaders, while Marcos and Kleber occupy the sixth place in the sum of times.

The duos are already preparing for the third stage, which will be played on Monday (14) and marks the start of the Marathon, which is the stage in which the team cannot make any kind of repair in the competition vehicles.

The start of the marathon, which leaves from Petrolina, runs 104 kilometers of initial displacement, 407 stretches timed for a total of 511 kilometers, ending in Xique-Xique, in Bahia.

Cristian Baumgart defined Monday as the day to accelerate the Prodrive Hunter T1+.  "Today was very good, and we came very strong. Tomorrow is the day to drive strong and drive the marathon stage,  safe and fast, well concentrated," said the fourth-time winner of the Sertões.

Marcos Baumgart was more concise and said that, although he is still at the beginning, the Sertões is already in its decisive phase.

"What defines the rally is the first 3 or 4 days. Whoever does it, its safe; whoever didn't, doesn't do it any more. Of course there is a lot to happen, but success in the marathon stages can be decisive for the end of the rally," said Marcos Baumgart.

On the special of this Monday, the competitors will open the Marathon stage, leaving from Petrolina (PE) and arriving in Xique-Xique, in Bahia, traveling a total of 511 kilometers, of which 104 are of initial displacement and 407 are timed.

The X Rally team is sponsored by Vedacit, Motul, BF Goodrich, and Rodobens.

Rally dos Sertões 2023: Guiga Spinelli and Paulo Fiuza close the second stage of the Sertões in second place with the Mitsubishi team.

Mitsubishi Brazil team climb into the top-5 of the overall ranking this Sunday, in a show of speed of the Mitsubishi L200 Triton Sport Racing.

Driver Guiga Spinelli and navigator Paulo Fiuza had a pretty positive Sunday (13) in the second stage of the Sertões, Brazil's main rally competition. The duo competing with the Mitsubishi L200 Triton Sport Racing pickup number 310 closed the day in the top-5 of the overall car rating and in second place in the category, the T1F.

Guiga and Fiuza mark the return of the official team of Mitsubishi Motors in Sertões, this being the 31st edition of the race.

"It was a positive day, we managed to drive much faster than yesterday, the car was very good with this new setup, and me and Paulo are much more enthralled. We managed to force the pace more without taking great risks, without problems in the special, so today was a day of the way that we hope to do this rally", says Guiga, who has the sponsorship of FF Seguros, PneuStore, BTG Pactual Wealth Management, Atvos, W-Truffi Blindados and the support of Dacar Motorsports. The second stage of the Sertões 2023 was marked by 246 km of route, of which 174 km were special timed and 72 km were displacement. The competitors left Petrolina (PE), passed through Juremal (BA) and returned to the city of Pernambucan in the afternoon.

"Today was a very good day. We entered with attitude, the Guiga is congratulating us for excellent navigation, the car was perfect with the improvements we made, we are in the fight, and we will try to maintain this good sequence of work", says Fiuza.

Guiga and Fiuza occupy the third place in the sum of the time of the first two stages of the Sertões in the T1F category and the eighth position in the cars with 7 hours, 6 minutes, and 49 seconds in the total timed time. Fifth champion of the Sertões, Guiga is in his 20th participation in the main rally of Brazil.

Sertões 2023 follows this Monday (14) and the third stage marks the start of the marathon. The start will be again in Petrolina (PE) and the arrival is scheduled to take place in Xique-Xique (BA). It will be 407 km of special timed,  plus 104 km of displacement, totaling 511 km in the day.

Rally dos Sertões 2023: Moraes and Bentivoglio won the first stage and took the lead of the race with comfortable margin

In the 674km between Petrolina (PE) and Raso da Catarina (BA), the team finishes the day with 9min03s27 of advantage

“It was a difficult stage. One of the toughest of my career at Sertões. Congratulations to those who made the roadbook”, said Lucas Moraes, stressing the level of wear suffered by the duo that competed the first stage of the 31st edition of the BRB Sertões Rally, the test that ran this Saturday a total of 674km between Pernambuco and Bahia and that will have its closure on the next 16 August. Moraes drove the Toyota GR Hilux DKR T1+ navigated by also paulist Kaique Bentivoglio and completed the task in 4h11min51s67 – result which gave him the victory and a considerable advantage over the second placed, the duo Cristian Baumgart/Beco Andreotti (Prodrive Hunter T1 +).

Like other competitors, Moraes and Bentivoglio had a tire hole, but the training carried out with the team gave the duo a good level of efficiency in the change: in about a minute, the wheel was already replaced. “We only noticed we had a flat tire when we were in a radar zone, where speed is controlled for safety reasons. So our loss was not great,” Moraes explained. Even adding all the shots, the current champion duo of the Sertões ended the day with an advantage of 09min03s27 over Baumgart and Andreotti – a result considered very good for only one test day.

Of course we didn’t expect that. This year the grid is spectacular, with cars, drivers and navigators of an incredible level. It's an honor to run against this class. But from the start we managed to keep a very good pace. And it was important to arrive with the car intact, without damage, because with so many jumps, stones and holes it is common to break something, even by some beating. But we did well,” said Moraes, who this year made his debut at the Dakar Rally, finishing on the podium and positioning himself as one of the great revelations of the international scene.

“There is no lack of potential winners here”“Today was only the first of the eight days of the race. We've got more than 3,100km ahead and we know there's a lot of lions in the rally every day for you to kill. What is not missing here is fast drivers,” navigator Kaique Bentivoglio joked. “Tonight we will talk about the strategy for tomorrow. We were surprised by the great difficulty that this special had, with change of terrain and direction all the time, pretty dangerous stones, many narrow sections – we scraped the whole car to pass. A lot of people ended up beating because of all this. And that's at high speed. So the team will want to review everything, review every detail of the car and our strategy. At Sertões, every day is a race. And each race is a separate chapter in this adventure,” he added.

The Sunday stage again has started in Petrolina and continues towards Juremal, in Bahia, to then return to the starting point, in the state of Pernambuco. The timed stretch will be 174km, considered small for the standards of the Sertões or Dakar. “This detail may mean a lot,” says Lucas Moraes. “Normally the reason for making a small stretch in the middle of the race is that it is extremely difficult, with many difficulties in the route, in addition to complicated navigation. But we will only know that on Sunday,” he added.
The double champion of the Sertões has the support of Toyota Gazoo Racing, Red Bull, SpeedMax (PneuStore), Zapälla, Strava and Sparco. The Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+ from Moraes and Bentivoglio is operated in Brazil by the MEM Motorsports team, with the support of experts from the Belgian Overdrive Racing, defended by them in international races. Rally dos Sertões 2023: Guiga Spinelli closes the first special and highlights a good performance with Mitsubishi.

Alongside his co-driver, Paulo Fiuza, the five-time winner ends the stage in Petrolina in the fourth position in the category T1F and among the top ten in

Five time winner of the Sertões Rally, Guiga Spinelli started to validate his 20th participation in the race this Saturday (12), when the race had the contest of its first special in its 31st edition, with the start and arrival in Petrolina (PE). Alongside navigator Paulo Fiuza, the driver of the Mitsubishi L200 Triton Sport Racing from the official team of Mitsubish Motors completed the 299 kilometers of the special held with start and arrival in Petrolina (PE) in the fourth position in the T1F category, and in the ninth overall place.

In a day of the longest test just at the opening of the Sertões 2023, with a total route of 674 kilometers, Spinelli highlighted that the adaptation to the car and to the work of Fiuza on a Saturday with a timed route was quite difficult. The driver of the Mitsubishi L200 number 310 also faced a tire hole during the special, which caused him to lose some time, but approved the performance at the end of the stage.

"It was a very difficult, very long special. We had some stunts on more high-speed sections and a tire hole. We're adapting to the rally, to the car, and I'm getting into Paulo. We will look for some change in the car for tomorrow, but finishing a hard special like this is a good result," said Guiga Spinelli, who has the sponsorships of FF Seguros, PneuStore, BTG Pactual Wealth Management, Atvos, W-Truffi Blindados, and Dacar Motorsports.

This Sunday (13), the drivers of the Sertões again make a stage in tie, with departure and arrival in Petrolina, passing through the city of Juremal, in Bahia. The special stage will have 174 kilometers,  while the full length of the day's leg will be 246 kilometers.
