Desafio Ruta 40 2026: The early beats of Desafío Ruta 40 YPF
Official activities of Desafío Ruta 40 YPF are in full swing in San Juan, and expectations are growing as the competition approaches. The 13th edition of this iconic race, which will run from San Juan–San Rafael–San Juan and count as the third round of the World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC), is already in full swing at Autódromo San Juan Villicum.
Today, Administrative and Scrutineering Checks took place for FIA and FIM competitors. Earlier, the teams also took advantage of the day to finalize details and carry out the last private tests before the race action begins.
Spanish rider Edgar Canet (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) shared his thoughts on returning to the Desafío Ruta 40 YPF—the last edition was held in 2024: “I really have fond memories of this race. It was right here in this paddock that I first got involved with KTM, so yes, I have good memories of this place. It was fantastic for me; it was my first podium in Rally2, so I’m very happy to be here. Now I have a lot more experience, so I think I can do well here.”
For his part, Ross Branch (Hero Motorsport Rally Team) highlighted his enthusiasm for competing in Argentina again: “I love the terrain here; I love being in Argentina. The vibes are always positive in this country and everyone loves motorsport, so it’s very special to be back here. Everyone in the top 10 is going super fast right now; the team has worked hard for that, giving us the best upgrade package possible.”
The event will continue tomorrow with the start of timed competition, beginning with the 9-kilometer Prologue special stage to be held in Albardón, which will count toward the FIM, Open, and Desafío Ansenuza categories. At the same time, FIA participants will take part in the Shakedown.
The close of Sunday’s events will feature one of the moments most anticipated by the public: starting at 6 p.m., the traditional starting ramp will take place at the Centro Cultural Conte Grand, with free admission for all fans.
