Rali dos Sertões 2024: Honda Racing Brasil is getting ready for the 2024 Sertões Rally
The countdown is on for Sertões 2024, which will be held between August 23 and 31, starting and finishing in Brasília, Federal District. Owner of 10 titles in the overall standings, the Honda Racing team has won the most among the motorcycles and is looking forward to the main challenge of the Brazilian Rally Raid Championship season.
The team is racing with the reigning motorcycle champion, American Mason Klein, who is new to Honda Racing for the 32nd edition of the event. Also in the Moto 1 category, Argentina's Martin Duplessis, the 2023 Latin American champion, is confirmed.
In Moto 2, Gabriel Soares “Tomate” from Minas Gerais is the team's representative, defending his Brazilian title in the category. All three are competing on Honda CRF 450RX motorcycles. Honda Racing is completed by the current three-time Brazilian and Sertões champion in the Brazil category, Tiago Wernersbach, from Espírito Santo, on a CRF 250F.
Dário Júlio Lopes is in charge of the team for the 11th season. “We're a month away from the start, but if it were next week we'd be ready. Preparations for the start are well underway, everything is organized for the race,” says the team leader.
The route of the 32nd Sertões will be completed in eight stages, plus the prologue to define the starting order, totaling around 3,500 kilometers of challenges. The timed sections (specials) represent approximately 70% of the route, which passes through the Federal District and the states of Goiás and Bahia.
“The only city that is new to us is Santa Maria da Vitória (BA), but because of the region we have a good idea of the characteristics. The Sertões route will have farm roads and very dry terrain, so dust will be a major difficulty. We will also have stretches of hills, erosion, rocks, sand and long, very fast straights, which will require maximum engine speed and a lot of resistance from the equipment. Our motorcycles have shown a lot of resistance on the trails, which certainly gives us a lot of confidence to go full throttle,” concludes Dário Júlio.
The Honda Racing Rally Team is sponsored by Pro Honda, Honda Seguros, DID, NGK, Ogio, Michelin and Fly.
