Through its three decades of existence, Sertões BRB is constantly reinventing itself. Not only through the routes, which took the caravan through 18 Brazilian states and the Federal District. Features; regulations, categories, and details of the dispute advanced during this period, making one edition never exactly the same as the others. And it will not be different in the 31st of them that, from August 11 to August 19, will connect Petrolina (PE) to Preá (CE), by a roadmap of 3,800 kilometers, of which 2,080 are timed.

The first novelty is in the design of the tracks. Three of the eight stages will have Petrolina as the starting and finish point (a format known as ‘band’, or ‘margarida’), with completely different challenges and directions between them. And the final stage will take place around the municipality of Cruz, where the Preá district and the beach of the same name are located. A way to reduce the distances traveled by the support teams (and the displacements to the competitors), without compromising the technical level of the rally. Far from that, by the way, as many drivers and followers believe in one of the most difficult editions of the test.

Another new feature of the BRB 2023 Sertões is the adoption of the electronic roadbook for competitors in cars and UTVs – as an option. It replaces the traditional paper format, which requires the physical delivery of the roadbook for each stage shortly before the start. For those who opt for the new configuration, the script will be released on the tablets of the browsers at the time stipulated by the regulation. Thus, the BRB Sertões aligns even more with the main international cross-country rally events.Still in the cars, the duo registered with the Triton Sport R pickups from Mitsubishi will compete, in addition to the T2 category, in a separate competition, which will offer the winners as a prize a stay of three nights amid the beauties of Alter do Chão, in Pará. The model was developed by Spinelli Racing, the competition arm of the Japanese automaker in Brazil, as an entry option for the rallies and, in the last editions of the Sertões has shown to be more than able to overcome the challenge.
As you can see, there is no shortage of news. What does not change is the tradition of revealing the beauties of a Brazil that many Brazilians do not know and the promise of fierce competition, worthy of the largest rally in the Americas.

Edgar Fabre, Technical Director: "This year we were surprised by the challenges, despite coming from the construction of the world’s largest rally, 14 days of testing last year. It will be a harder edition than we have traditionally done, with a lot of navigation, although the adoption of the spreadsheet makes navigation easier, especially for the less experienced. Since 2020, our management has been assembling the tests according to world standards, a roadbook in English, and standardized drawings/signals. This will be the first year in the history of the Sertões that we will have the sheet size A5 (smaller)."
