Bruno Varela was the best in the super prime race and will be able to choose his starting position in the Sertões Rally

This Friday (23), the 32nd edition of the Rally dos Sertões began with the prologue and Super Prime, which defined the starting position for each driver on Saturday morning, when the competition leaves Brasília and heads for Goiás. The highlight of the day was the duo Bruno Varela/Aristóteles Fiuza, from Varela Can-AM Monster Energy, who won the Super Prime and secured the right to choose which position they prefer to start in.

The sunny day in the Brazilian capital meant that the drivers faced a lot of dust on the course built next to the BRB Mané Garrincha Arena, which had two designs: a short section of 450 m and a long section of 850 m, both narrow.

Bruno Varela and Ari Fiúza qualified for the Super Prime after finishing the 11 km prologue, held in the morning in the area of the 1st Guards Cavalry Regiment, with the fourth best time, alongside seven other competitors.

The duo in the Maverick R #110 faced their first duel against Conrado Matsumoto/André Munhoz, achieving a strong pace in the heat and moving on. The semi-final was contested with Cristiano Batista/Fábio Mota, where again the #110 did better on the wet track.

The final took place against Jean Azevedo/Idali Bosse at the end of the afternoon. In a complicated battle, with both cars coming off the track, the duo representing the Varela Family managed to stay ahead and take the Super Prime. “The Super Prime had a very tight circuit and I'm with a new car, so every corner is a learning experience. It was good training for the start of the rally,” said Bruno.

Preparing for the first stage - The Dust Family still has three more cars in the top-20 out of the 89 entered in the UTV. Gabriel Varela/Guilherme Holanda, who drive the Maverick X3 #121, will start in ninth place, followed by Rodrigo Varela/Matheus Mazzei, who are aboard the Maverick R #102. Reinaldo Varela/Túlio Taniguchi, also driving a Maverick R #120, will start in 16th place.
