Lucas and Marcos Moraes put on a driving show on the first day of the Sertões Rally

An exciting moment ended the Super Prime race of the 32nd edition of the Sertões Rally this Friday (23) in Brasília, with the duel between the Lucas Moraes/Kaíque Bentivoglio and Marcos Moraes/Fábio Pedroso pairs. The fact that caught the eye was that Marcos and Lucas are father and son and played out a scene worthy of applause from the public present at the circuit set up next to the BRB Mané Garrincha Arena.

Lucas and Kaíque started the opening day of the Sertões with the best time in the 11 km prologue in the area of the 1st Guards Cavalry Regiment. The pair, who are competing in the Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1U #323, clocked 7min13s800. The session was already a preview of what was to come, with Marcos/Pedroso close behind with 7min18s470.

Family duel - The Super Prime, which took place on a short track of 450 m and a long one of 850 m, began with Lucas/Kaíque facing Pedro Queirolo/Paulo Sobreira. The current top-3 in the World Rally Raid Championship and two-time Sertões champion managed a strong pace amid a lot of dust, moving on to the semi-final.

The next round was against Marcelo Gastaldi/Cadu Sachs. Once again, Moraes set a good pace and won the duel. All that remained was to see who his opponent would be in the final round. And the result got the driver excited: he would face his father, Marcos.

The family duel closed the Super Prime program in a breathtaking contest. The pairs got off to a good start, with Lucas in the lead. However, in the final stretch, the driver, who has already won an unprecedented special stage in the Dakar, began to move slowly, leaving the public apprehensive. Even so, he crossed the finish line in front. Father, son, and navigators ended the race with an emotional hug, accompanied by applause from the crowd.

Now, Lucas Moraes will have the mission of choosing the best starting position for the first stage, this Saturday (24). The competition will start at 7 a.m., with the Cars being the second category to start. Moraes and Bentivoglio are competing in the Sertões with the support of Red Bull, Strava, Repsol, Oakley, Zapalla, Reserva and SpeedMax (PneuStore).
