Rally Minas 2024: Rally Minas Brasil is the next challenge for the Brazilian Rally Raid Championship
The race for the 2024 Brazilian Rally Raid Championship title continues. From May 15 to 18, drivers and navigators will be looking for new points for the season's ranking in Araxá
The month of May begins with expectations surrounding the next stage of the Brazilian Rally Raid Championship: the 6th Rally Minas Brasil, which takes the championship to Minas Gerais, based in Araxá. From May 15 to 18, teams from different regions of the country will gather at the Grande Hotel Termas de Araxá, where the support park will be located. Entries are still open for the motorcycle, UTV and car categories at www.rallymakers.com.br.
So far, competitors from 12 states have signed up, especially Bahia, with 15 vehicles from the city of Luís Eduardo Magalhães (a total of 21 people), seven of whom are first-timers: Augusto Loyolla Sartori, Daniel Gatto, Lucas Amélio Gatto and Roberto Gatto in the motorcycle category; and in the UTVs, sisters Maria Eduarda and Maria Carolina Passos. Gabriel Bissotto, meanwhile, although he has navigated in the UTV category before, will be on motorcycles for the first time.
“The Minas Brasil Rally is an incredible event and we make a point of being there. This year in particular, due to the event's date change, it has made our participation more accessible and increased our confidence in achieving good results. Thinking of the motorcycle riders, May is no longer the rainy season in Minas Gerais, which for the category increases safety and allows the riders to accelerate harder,” commented the head of the Gatto Racing team, Rui Bissotto.
Attention navigators
There will be three days of contests and around 700 km that will cut through the mountains of Minas Gerais, passing through Araxá, Sacramento, Tapira, Pratinha and Ibiá. Navigation will be the biggest challenge of this stage of the Brazilian Rally Raid since, according to the Rally Minas Brasil organizers, each timed section has more than 400 references and no radar zone.
“In other words, it will be an intense race with no rest, which will require a lot of concentration, especially from the navigators, who will have a spreadsheet with a lot of information (and with nearby references) to sing to the drivers. It's going to take a lot of breath and the duo's rapport will be a key factor in achieving a good result,” said Fernando Bentivoglio, general director of Rallymakers.
This week, the technical team will carry out the final check of the Rally Minas Brasil routes, which feature rough terrain, with gravel, trials, climbs and descents in mountainous stretches.
