Rally RN 1500 2024: Bruno and Rodrigo Varela triumph in the special stages of the RN1500 Rally
The RN1500 Rally, the first stage of the Brazilian Cross Country Rally Championship, came to an end on Saturday (April 20). The last special stages, on Friday and Saturday, were dominated by the Varela Can-Am Monster Energy team, with victories for Bruno Varela/Ari Fiuza and Rodrigo Varela/Matheus Mazzei.
Over the four days of competition, the duo led by Rodrigo came third, with a time of 12:29:22. Reinaldo Varela and his navigator Túlio Taniguchi were 20th, followed by Bruno and Matheus in 21st. The stage winners were Denísio do Nascimento and Gunnar Dums, from Bompack Racing, with a time of 12:23:59.
Relief on Friday - Friday (19/04) was a day of celebration for Bruno Varela. The driver won the RN1500 Rally in the third special stage held in the morning in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, starting and finishing in Acari. Bruno and his navigator, Ari Fiuza, led three of the four parts of the 186 km timed course, completing the special in 2h20min43s.
It was a redemption for the driver and navigator, who led all the sections of Wednesday's special, but punctures in two of the Maverick X3's tires meant that victory slipped out of their hands. The pair had already shown good pace in the prologue held on Tuesday, where they led.
Best of the last day - Saturday was another day of celebration for the team. Rodrigo Varela won the last special stage of the schedule with a time of 2h43min57s, more than two minutes ahead of second place.
The competitors left Acari, still in Rio Grande do Norte, and continued on to Patos, in Paraíba, covering 186 timed kilometers and 206 kilometers in total. The route is called “Ribeira do Seridó”.
The next round of the Brazilian Cross Country Rally Championship takes place in May, in Minas Gerais.
