Together with their respective navigators, the brothers finished the third stage of the competition in the top-10
On the fourth day of the Sertões Rally, held on Monday (26) in Bahia, the UTV drivers had to deal with delays, narrow roads and intense competition in the most competitive category of the day. Among the highlights of the day were the pairs Bruno Varela/Ari Fiuza and Rodrigo Varela/Matheus Mazzei, racing the Maverick R #110 and #102, respectively, prepared by Varela Can-AM Monster Energy, who managed to stay in the top-10 overall.
The second day began with a delay in the start of the category after two motorcycle accidents. To ensure a safe rescue for the riders, the start of the UTVs was postponed to 10:45. Rodrigo/Mazzei started in front for the 335 km special after winning the previous day.
The day, which began in Santa Maria da Vitória (BA), was considered more complicated, with narrow stretches, large stones, sand and low-speed points. With the level of competition high, the cars behaved similarly and the split times remained very close until the finish in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA).
Victory went to Tomas Luza/Fábio França, with a time of 4:43:49, followed by Denisio do Nascimento/Gunnar Dums, 1:32:88 behind. Bruno/Fiuza secured the third best time: 4h45min23s55. Thiago Fraga/Marcelo Ritter took fourth place, 2min21s46 behind the leaders. Rodrigo/Mazzei rounded off the top five, just ten seconds off fourth place.
Inversion in the general classification - With the third special completed, there was a change of leadership in the Rally: Bruno and Ari took first place with 10h58min52s410. Rodrigo and Matheus are right behind, with a mere 0s44 difference. The top three is completed by Denisio do Nascimento/Gunnar Dums, who are 2min29s79 behind.
Also representing the Dust Family, the pairs Gabriel Varela/Guilherme Holanda and Reinaldo Varela/Túlio Taniguchi had another complicated day, but unlike the previous stage, where Gabriel had to abandon, the route was completed by both pairs.
This Tuesday, the competitors face the first leg of the marathon stage, which will be 434 km long for the UTVs, 418 km of which will be timed. The special takes place entirely in Luís Eduardo Magalhães, where the competitors will stay until Wednesday.
