Sertões 2025: Discover some news about what lies ahead for the 2025 Sertões Rally
Preparation for an edition of the Sertões begins as soon as the previous one comes to an end. To get riders and navigators on motorcycles, quads, cars and UTVs to speed along the roads of Brazil in what is now the biggest rally in the Americas, it's necessary to put together a jigsaw puzzle with countless pieces. Defining the date; the start and finish locations; the dormitory towns, mileage and characteristics of the special stages, planning the structure of the Sertões Villas and the routes for the support teams, among many others.
It's a job that requires complex planning, with several important moments during the interval between two editions. For example, the route mapping phase, with the design of the spreadsheet that will be given to the competitors; the checking of the timed and travel sections and the definition of the technical team's tasks during the race.
Many of these aspects are yet to come, but in order to pique the curiosity of those who are already registered or who intend to take part in the race between July 26 and August 3, as well as all those who follow the Sertões, technical director Edgar Fabre has given some news:
Hidden waypoints
The route of the 33rd Sertões will once again feature waypoints (GPS coordinates) that are not marked on the spreadsheet and which vehicles must pass through. The idea here is to make sure that everyone follows the exact directions indicated and doesn't cut corners where there is a possibility of doing so. Anyone who does not pass through the waypoint unblocking area will be penalized in time at the end of the stage.
Sertões Classic
Already announced here on the Sertões website and on the rally's social networks, the category opens up space for cars that have made history over the more than three decades of the challenge. Production 4×4 models whose commercial version was launched up to 2005 or prototypes (4×2 and 4×4) manufactured at least 20 years ago will be accepted.
Online course and root race
If the Sertões BRB 2024 started and finished in the same city (Brasília), next year the race will once again take place in a line, starting in one place and finishing in another. That doesn't rule out the possibility of loop specials, starting and finishing in the same place. The characteristics of the race will also change. If this year's route was more fluid, faster and on wider roads, in 2025 the promise is of a tougher Sertões, with rocks, erosion, tougher and more winding specials. That means a lot of work for drivers and navigators.
Start in the middle of the country
Although the exact location is still a mystery, Sertões 2025 will once again start in the middle of the country. “Many competitors, especially the older ones, will love it,” promises Fabre.
Arrival by the sea
And if the start will take place inland, the finish of the Sertões 2025 is scheduled for the northeastern coast, a region that has hosted the race on several occasions. “We'll be rewarded with a very beautiful finish on a very nice beach,” says Fabre.
To guarantee your registration for the Sertões 2025 with promotional prices, it's a good idea to hurry, as the first lot closes at the turn of the year. For motorcycles, all available places have been filled, but it is possible to join a waiting list. Cars and UTVs still have places available.
