Sertões 2025: Honda Riders Dominate Top 3 as Sertões 2025 Reaches the Halfway Mark
Xique-Xique (BA) – After four grueling stages of the 2025 Sertões Rally, Honda riders are leading the way, locking out the top three positions in the motorcycle overall standings. Spain’s Tosha Schareina powered to another stage win this Wednesday (July 30), extending his lead in both the Overall and Moto 1 classifications aboard the Honda CRF 450 Rally of the Monster Energy Honda HRC Team.
France’s Romain Dumontier, who finished second on the day, now holds the runner-up spot in both categories, followed closely by Argentina’s Martin Duplessis — all based on unofficial results. Riding the CRF 450RX, the Honda Racing Brasil team continues to shine with Brazilian Tiago Wernersbach, undefeated in Moto 3 and now sitting fifth overall.
The team did suffer a setback, though: Bruno Crivilin, who was second in Moto 2, suffered a heavy crash while leading the stage. Thankfully, after medical evaluation, he was cleared with no major injuries.
Meanwhile, Alexandre Valadares "Brankim", riding the Brazilian-made CRF 250F, claimed his fourth consecutive win in the Brasil class, and climbed to eighth overall, a remarkable feat for a national-production bike.
Stage 4 of the Sertões 2025 featured 478 km in total, with 276 km of timed special, all under Marathon rules — meaning no mechanical assistance from the teams. Riders were fully responsible for their own bike repairs at the end of the day, within a strict time window at the bivouac.
The Marathon continues Thursday (July 31), as competitors cross into Pernambuco, ending the fifth stage in Petrolina. The stage covers 470 km, with 296 km of special.
Sertões 2025 covers a total of 3,482 kilometers, including 2,215 km of timed stages. The rally began in Goiânia (GO) and finishes on August 3 in Marechal Deodoro (AL), counting toward the 2025 Brazilian Rally Raid Championship. Honda Racing Brasil is proudly sponsored by Pro Honda, Honda Seguros, Axalta, DID, NGK, Ogio, and ASW.
Rider Quotes – Stage 4:
Tosha Schareina #68:
“Today’s stage was slower and very technical, with lots of cliffs and tight terrain. We had to be smart, preserve the bike and the tires — this is Marathon after all. I rode carefully, tried to avoid mistakes, and it paid off with the win. Now we focus on pushing through the second half, even with the tires more worn out.”
Romain Dumontier #23:
“It went really well. I started second behind Tosha and stayed close all day. No mistakes, just focused on keeping the bike in good shape. Ready for the next Marathon leg.”
Martin Duplessis #3:
“I was riding strong when I stopped to help Bruno after his crash. Thankfully he’s okay. After that, I just kept my pace and brought it home. It’s a tough race, but all Honda riders are fast — that’s great for the team. My bike feels good, I’m physically strong, and ready for Stage 5.”
Tiago Wernersbach #7:
“It was a demanding stage, especially under Marathon rules. But everything worked out — another class win and a good overall result. The bike is ready for tomorrow.”
Alexandre Valadares “Brankim” #29:
“It was a great day. We tackled some tight mountain sections with a lot of navigation. I rode conservatively because of the Marathon format, and the CRF 250F is ready to go again. Let’s keep the pace.”
