For the last two years, there have been five types of vehicles taking part in the Dakar Rally. In 42nd edition, Poland will be represented in all of them. In SSV category (lightweight terrain vehicles), Aron Domżała with Maciej Marton and Maciej Domżała with Rafał Marton will be carrying the white-red flag through the sands of Saudi Arabia.

The two cars of the team of fathers and sons left the port in Jeddah on Thursday morning and went straight to tests. The organizer of the Dakar Rally strictly pointed at the place where all teams could carry out the shakedown, last training before the start of the competition. All that to prevent anybody from seeing the proper route of the rally.

“Tests went well because they let us see that a few key elements need correction or replacement. Our technical team will have a foretaste of Dakar routine because probably they’ll spend half of the night on preparing both CanAms for scrutineering and Sunday’s start,” Aron Domżała forecasted.

Words of the young driver soon were confirmed by reality. Service of fathers and sons worked practically until the last minutes before departure for scrutineering. They spent all night, morning and a part of forenoon in bivouac, mostly correcting the suspension.

“Now we reached that moment which gives all Dakar participants a feeling of relief. We have all bureaucracy of administrative checks behind us, as well as scrutineering. We drove through the starting ramp at the official opening ceremony of the competition, and the cars are in parc ferme. Now we can rest a bit. All the team deserved sleep. We passed our first exam at this year’s Dakar,” Aron Domżała said smiling.

“On Sunday before 9 am European time we will be already leaving for the first special stage. We don’t know exactly what we can expect, because the organizer didn’t give us much information… For sure there will be a few cordilleras and some dunes – a bit for warm-up, a bit for paving the way. Special stage is 319 km long, and the whole leg is over 700 km long, so for sure we will have to be very careful,” Maciej Marton predicts.

In this year’s Dakar Rally, we’ll see 46 SSVs. Aron Domżała already has a victory in this category in the World Cup under his belt, so he and his navigator, Maciej Marton, are set to being on the top. For their fathers, Maciej Domżała and Rafał Marton, the finish line in Quiddiya is the goal.
