Dakar 2020: Mathieu Serradori scores his 1st stage victory

David against Goliath. They did it! First stage victory on the DAKAR Rally!

Since the start of this rally, Mathieu and Fabian were already proud to come and rub shoulders with the best in the discipline, showing great consistency in all stages. The difficult day for everyone yesterday gave Mathieu extra strength. “I was angry at the start. I was doing my race, I knew we could achieve a good time but I never imagined that " admits moved Mathieu Serradori at the bivouac.

An exceptional result and with style. Starting 16th, the Fréjusien drove hard without damaging the car. At km 212, the buggy duo took the lead of the race at the expense of the local Al Rajhi and kept it until the end. To show the level of performance, Serradori left the double F1 world champion, Fernando Alonso, more than 4 min behind and the leading trio Peterhansel / Al Attiyah / Sainz was relegated to more than 10 minutes. “We have put together 6 competitors. It was our stage, we are so happy. Let's enjoy this moment, ” continues Fabian Lurquin.

“Above all, I want to dedicate this victory to Paulo (Gonçalves). I am very happy to also be able to offer this victory to my entire team and to Century. We are a private team and to succeed in this feat in front of factory cars is a great satisfaction. I also want to congratulate our second crew which finished 18th today. A day that I will not forget, ” said  Mathieu Serradori

Another reaction is that of Julien Hardy (Century Racing) who developed the CR6. “It's just magical what we are going through. I am very proud of our collaboration with Mathieu and the whole SRT team and proud of our CR6, of course. From shadow to light, SRT is much more than an outsider."
