Erik van Loon and Sébastien Delaunay have driven the first stage of Dakar 2020 taking as few risks as possible. Despite a puncture at the beginning of the stage, they didn't get into any trouble. Van Loon wants to build it up during the rally with consistency. Delaunay didn't make any mistake and they are happy with their tenth position.

“It was a real Dakar stage,” said Van Loon. “We have seen dunes, paths, and stones on our way. Some others were searching for the right track, but - thanks to Seb - we won some time there. He didn't make any mistakes, so we are happy with that. We could have opened a bit faster, but the risks would have been bigger. I am happy.”

The rally continues tomorrow with the second stage from Al Wajh to Neom. It is 367 kilometers long, the first car will leave around 9:25 (7:25 CET) and will be expected to finish near 14:00 (12:00 CET).
