Dakar 2021: Team Dakarspeed out of the Dakar 2021

Team Dakarspeed is definitely out of the rally. This afternoon there was still a glimmer of hope to get the truck running again, but it is now clear that the team will not be back in the race.

The crash was quite unexpected, says Maurik on the way to the bivouac.

“We drove about 80, on an uphill slope. Suddenly that dune was cut off and we were launched. ” said the driver.

The Scania landed on the nose and flipped over.

“Oil was leaking on the hot engine, so the front caught fire. Fortunately, we were able to get out quickly and prevent everything from catching fire. But the damage is such that the truck is a total loss. The entire superstructure of the car is bent or broken, we have fire damage to the engine and the electrics. Fortunately, the roll cage in the cabin did its job well, except for some bumps and scratches, we are unharmed. ”

William de Groot pulled the Scania to the side and put it on the wheels by the KH7-fast assistance. After topping up the necessary fluids, the team tried to get the truck going, but unfortunately that was not a success. An assistance truck from Boucou helped the Scania on its way, until its assistance could take over to bring the car to the bivouac.
