Dakar 2022: Luís Portela Morais and David Megre finalize preparations for the Dakar Rally 2022

A little more than a week before the start of the 2022 Dakar Rally Luís Portela Morais and David Megre are still working enthusiastically and hard preparing their presence in the great 4x4 marathon. In the year they return to the mythical race, four years after their first experience, then on a motorcycle, the Portuguese duo is finalizing the logistical details before their departure for Saudi Arabia, which will take place on December 27.

In Dakar, the BP Ultimate SSV team will have at its disposal a structure composed of two mechanics and a team manager. This organization allows the ideal conditions for the Portuguese duo to be at their best and meet their first major goal, which is to finish the longest and most challenging off-road rally in the world.

To reach the proposed goals the pilots have started a rigorous physical preparation in the gym as well as all the preparation of the logistic structure so that everything is ready for the great adventure that is the Dakar:

"In terms of ambitions the main goal is to finish. We have some resources, but it's very difficult to prepare for this race. Well prepared and with good management we can have a good race and make everyone proud. Creating the conditions to participate in the Dakar again was a dream I had and fortunately this year we managed to go to Saudi Arabia to be present in this great competition. David navigates very well and has a lot of racing experience", explains Luís Portela Morais, who has in his portfolio an SSV podium in the Morocco Rally.

For the team, this is a much sought-after return, after the 2017 rally didn't end in the best way. This time, the duo will participate in SSVs not only because of the greater safety it provides but also because it is a fast-growing and very competitive modality. The 44th Dakar Rally starts in Ha'Il in Saudi Arabia on January 2 and runs until the 14th of the same month.
