After the 9th place yesterday in the prologue, Hélder Rodrigues, navigated by Gonçalo Reis at the wheel of a Can-Am, registered by South Racing, was in excellent plan in the 1st streak of the Dakar Rally 2023, which is being held in Saudi Arabia. He got the 7th place in the T3 category, position he occupies in the general classification, in this that is his debut in the auto discipline of the most important all-terrain competition in the world.
"Today was the real first day of Dakar. It was a hard day. A day with many, many stones. We started with the main SSV competitors, but mixed with many cars. It was, as I said, a hard day, a day where we could throw everything away. We are still not at our rhythm. We are focused on not losing too much time and on being always close to the first competitors, so that, in the next days, we may continue to climb in the classification. Our goal is, little by little, to reach the front, but we have to be careful and not make mistakes", said Hélder Rodrigues on his return to the Sea Camp after the 602.56 km of the 1st stage.
Tomorrow the 2nd stage will take the competitors to Al-'Ula in which 430 km will be covered by the chronometer. The road to Al-'Ula will have something unusual in store. The closed tracks will be quite challenging, so driving skills will pay dividends. Even riders who lose time due to more troubled navigation on the rocky tracks or for any other reason will receive a reward when they come across the splendid gorges and beautiful scenery near the end. The stage will be decided over the dunes, with some of the majestic Nabataean temples visible on the horizon.
