Portuguese driver will try to solve the power problem on the rest day
Hélder Rodrigues keeps trying to overcome the technical difficulties he has been facing since the beginning of this Dakar 2023 and, for now, at least the question of fuel consumption seems to be solved. In the first part of the marathon stage that took place today, between Riyadh and Al Duwadimi, with a sector of 333 chronometers, the former world cross-country motorcycle champion got the 13th place in the T3 general classification at the controls of South Racing's Can-Am.
"The days have been very difficult. Yesterday the special was very beautiful and I tried to ride well, but we still can't solve the engine problem of the car. We are lacking power and were having exaggerated consumption. Today we solved the consumption problem, but the power issue is still unsolved. We are waiting for the rest day to see what is going on and try to solve the problem. For now we will continue learning the race to then attack in the second week. That's our goal", says Hélder Rodrigues, who continues to be excellently navigated by Gonçalo Reis.
Tomorrow, the Dakar 2023 caravan returns to Riyadh for the eighth stage of this edition of the rally, which will have a special stage of 346km. The first part will wind through beautiful valleys in the heart of the mountains before reaching an open desert. To round off the intense first week of the rally and give the drivers the chance to enjoy a well-earned rest day, the last two hundred kilometers of the special stage will be on fast tracks
