Dakar 2023: The first kilometres are done... and it feels good!

We spoke to Mirjam just after she finished. "I enjoyed it, really. I raced tight and made no mistakes. Maybe I could have even been a bit faster but then again, a mistake is so easily made and... during the prologue you can lose so much more than you can ever win. Even today I saw several riders make a slight mistake. For me, it feels like a very nice start to my tenth Dakar."

It was a fast route and that made Mirjam feel like she had the right pace. That gives confidence for the upcoming days. The past days she was able to sleep well and a good night's sleep for several days in a row is very important for Mirjam before starting a race.

"I am now really looking forward to tomorrow's day, it will be the first 'real' long stage. After tomorrow, I will also know where I stand!"

In the end, she finished 87th overall and 46th in the R2 classification. A great starting position for tomorrow's day.
