Morocco Rally 2021: Superb performance of the CST Apache tyres on the sandy and rocky sectors of the second stage of the Rally du Maroc

 
The 334 kms of timed section was very demanding for the machines and particularly the tyres.
The CST Apache tyres worked really well and on the 2,428 kms covered in total by the 4 Xtremeplus crews, there was only one puncture.

The legendary Erg Chebbi was on the menu of the second day of the Rallye du Maroc, “the most scenic stage”, according to David Castera who designed a route that featured everything you can dream about when you think at the Moroccan desert. Conceived as a 'scaled down 2022 Dakar special,' the competitors reached the t highest dunes of the Kingdom (150 metres) after 200 kilometres of liaison.

Careful navigation was a must in the dunes while the vehicles and particularly the tyres were stressed a lot by the consistent alternation of sand and rocky tracks.
 
It was a very good day for the Xtremeplus team with the Spanish duo Pena-Turnabell consolidating their position.

“it was a long stage, 334 kms in total, with a bit of everything. The highlight today was the 30 kms in the Erg Chebbi. When we arrived there, the sun was already high was the visibility was not the best, which made things more complicated. Despite this, we really enjoyed surfing the dunes with our Polaris Pro XP. The demanding part started after the dunes: kilometres and kilometres of sharp rocks, mountain paths, oued crossings. The pace was very fast especially in the last 50 kms and the route was so tricky. We are really satisfied because the machine and especially the CST tyres worked really well on the rocks”,

said Jose Luis Pena Campo, 5th today in the T3 category, 4th in the general ranking.

“It was a balanced stage and we really enjoyed it. As on the Dakar, the robustness of tyres were crucial today and our CST tyres worked really well”,

added Enrico Gaspari of the Polaris CST Team, 8th today in the T3 category, 8th in the general ranking.
 
It was a positive and smooth stage also for Sebastian Guayasamin and Ricardo Torlaschi who finished 12th in the stage and in the general in the T4 category. It was a long day for the British duo Knight-Watson, who despite some navigation issues, enjoyed the stunning landscape of this region of Morocco.  

“It was a fast stage that featured rocks and sand”, said Marco Piana, the owner of the Xtremeplus team. “These are the worst conditions for the tyres: the pressure becomes crucial and the priority is to have no puncture. In these conditions the CST Apache tyres were superb and at the finish line we only had a puncture out of 4 crews and a total of 2,428 kms covered. It was a demanding day also for the machines, but we are satisfied with the performance of the Polaris Pro XP”.

The race is still long and tomorrow the competitors will tackle the third stage.
