2022 Raid da Ferraria: António Maio, João Vale and Roberto Borrego win Raid Ferraria

Mini Baja was won by Domingos Cunha

António Maio in Yamaha on motorcycles, João Vale also in Yamaha in Quad and the duo Roberto Borrego/Nuno Abrantes in Can-Am, in SSV, were the winners of Raid Ferraria, the 3rd round of the Portuguese Off-Road Championship. Domingos Cunha in Yamaha won the Mini Baja.

The race organized by Clube da Ferraria held on the tracks of Abrantes, Ponte de Sor and Gavião had almost 150 participants and was the first race of the season to receive the Mini Baja. For the CNTT, the competitors raced 301 timed kilometers, divided into a prologue and a double passage in a selective sector of 149 km.

On the bikes, this Raid Ferraria saw António Maio and Gustavo Gaudêncio, who left separated by just 10’’ for the 2nd day, fighting a duel that would come to lean towards the national champion.

“The race was good. In the prologue, we chose to follow a different strategy than usual because the floor was heavy and with a lot of water, which ended up working. Thus, we were left with a very short margin for Gustavo, and it was a great fight in the final stage. I had to impose a stronger rhythm and concentrate more, but I'm happy to come out of this competition with another victory”, said the Portuguese champion upon arrival at Gavião.

Gustavo Gaudêncio (Honda) and Daniel Jordão (Husqvarna) arose to the podium. Fourth place for Micael Simão (GasGas) winner of the TT3 Class and 5^th place for Fábio Magalhães (Honda) who won the TT1 Class. Martim Ventura (Yamaha), who recently saw his father leave, former rider Rui Ventura, returned to competitions to triumph in the Junior Class while Mário Patrão (KTM) won the Veterans Class. João Pacheco (KTM) was the winner of the Promotion Class and Bruna Antunes (GasGas) won the Ladies Cup.

Like in the bikes, João Vale and Luís Fernandes fought a lively duel in the Quads, ending the 2^nd day separated by barely 15s. Absolute victory for the leader of the championship who thus reinforced his position.

“It was a well-fought race. I managed to win, that was the goal. We will race again in two weeks, and I will work to get the same result in the next competition”, said the winner at the end of the race.

The young Rafael Carvalho, who triumphed in the Junior Class, climbed once again to the podium. Fourth place for Fernando Cardoso winner of the Promotion. Carlos Reguinga was first among the veterans. All these winners on Yamaha while Vera Cabrita on Suzuki won the Women's Cup.

In SSV the duel between Roberto Borrego and Gonçalo Guerreiro was exciting and in the end the two were separated by a minimum of 5’’ with the victory pending for the national champion.

“It was a very close race. Gonçalo is very strong, and I had to take risks and impose a fast pace. I had to attack, and we won by 5 seconds. I really enjoyed this race”, commented the Portuguese champion at the end of the race.

The 2^nd place of Gonçalo Guerreiro, who won among the Juniors, however, allows him to ascend to the leadership of the Championship. The last podium place was won by Nelson Caxias by just 14’’ over Herlander Araújo. Pedro Carvalho, in 5th place, won among the veterans. The duel for the victory in the Stock class was also very interesting with José Morgado (Can-Am) imposing himself by 14’’ to Nelson Saramago (Polaris). Triumph in the T2 Class for Luis Caseiro.

In the Mini Baja, which was composed of a prologue and a sector with 75 km, Domingos Cunha was the fastest finishing ahead of Manuel Amaral and with Miguel Ferreira in 3^rd place. Simão Severino won among the youngest ahead of Luís Brandão and Bernardo Caiado. Carolina Feitinha was the only participating girl and was also the only competitor in Quad.

The championship returns on the 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th of May at Baja TT Oeste de Portugal.

Quad: 1^st João Vale (Yamaha), 70 points; 2^nd Rafael Carvalho (Yamaha), 53; 3^rd Fernando Cardoso (Yamaha), 42; 4^th Luís Fernandes (Yamaha), 31.
SSV: 1^st Gonçalo Guerreiro (Can-Am), 54 points; 2^nd Sebastien Guyette (Can-Am) and João Monteiro (Can-Am), 44; 4^th Nelson Caxias (Can-Am), 43; 5^th Roberto Borrego (Can-Am), 37; 6^th Pedro Santinho Mendes (Can-Am), 35.
