Baja Aragon 2021: Aragón region of Spain to host third round of FIM Bajas World Cup

This weekend, Joan Barreda (Honda), Adrien van Beveren (Yamaha) and Lorenzo Santolino (Sherco) will line up at the start of Baja Spain Aragón, round three of the 2021 FIM Bajas World Cup.

Built on a hill 900 metres above sea level, the host town of Teruel is the nerve centre of the Baja and is situated in Spain’s Aragón region where summer temperatures easily rise above 30°C during the month of July.

27 motorcycles and 8 quads, are expected to pass administrative and technical checks at the ‘Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos’ on Thursday, July 22.
Santolino and Rui Gonçalves would have been expecting to take over the torch from their former Team Sherco team-mate Michael Metge, the winner of the last two editions, until Barreda (Honda) and Van Beveren (Yamaha) were added to the entry list at the last minute. They will certainly be challenging for victory alongside Joan Pedrero on the Rieju.

Two experienced female riders line up in the women’s category: Mirjam Pol (Husqvarna), who holds 15th in the Baja standings, and Sara Garcia Alvarez (Yamaha).
Junior category rider Konrad Dabrowski (KTM) holds 10th in the FIM Bajas World Cup rankings and is present chasing points alongside the French riders, Neels Theric (KTM)— whose father won the fourth edition on a Honda in 1986 — and Jean-Loup Lepan (KTM).

In the quad category, Mario Gajon Carcia (KTM) will sport number 100, but veteran Toni Vingut (Yamaha) and Saudi Arabia’s Haitham Al-Tuwaijri and Faisal Al-Suwayh (Yamaha) also have their sights set on the podium.

The Baja Aragón will be run entirely over an earth and gravel route with a maximum altitude of 1,162 metres. A 6.8km super special will be organised on Friday, July 23 to determine the starting order for SS1.

On Saturday (July 24), riders will tackle a stage divided into two sections. In total, Baja Aragón is 895.80km long, including 553.60km competitive kilometres and 342.20km of liaison.
