Baja Aragon 2021: Joan Barreda fastest on the opening day

The XXXVII edition of the Baja España Aragón-Trofeo Avatel has started with the dominance of Joan Barreda (Honda) on the first day of competition. The rider from Castellón set the pace in the two special stages of the day, the first of which was a 5-kilometer prologue in Teruel in which he beat Tosha Schareina at the finish line by just four seconds.

In the first section of this Baja España Aragón, 180 kilometers between the towns of Bañón and Cuevas Labradas, Barreda was once again the fastest rider of this edition. With the best times in each of the three intermediate points of the route, the Honda rider used a time of 2h20'43'' to cross the finish line with the best time of the day and ahead of Lorenzo Santolino by 1'16'', who closed this first day of competition in second position. Third on this timed section was Tosha Schareina.

Joan Barreda (Honda rider):

"It was a very hard special stage and we had to keep a high concentration and avoid the big stones.  The truth is that we kept a good pace and it wasn't easy because there were doubtful areas due to the tracks left by the cars. Tomorrow will be even harder. The terrain is getting more and more broken and it's already going to be very hard. The conditions are really tough, I think this is one of the toughest Bajas I've ever raced, but we're going for it".

Tomorrow, the second day of competition with two new special stages. The motorcycles and quads will start the day with the longest stage of this edition (209km long) and then complete this XXXVII Baja España Aragón-Trofeo Avatel with the 162 km special stage between Monreal del Campo and Santa Eulalia.
