The rider supported by BAHCO, who in 2018 was Bajas World Championship vice-champion, started in the best way this hard Spanish race consisting of two legs: the first comprising a super special of 5.200 km and SS1 with 180 km; the second with two more selective sectors (SS2 and SS3), of 208.360 km and 112.910 km, respectively, in a total of more than 500km disputed to the chronometer.

The rider sponsored by LUSÍADAS SAÚDE had been doing a clean and consistent race, when he crashed 4km from the end of SS3, the last section of this competition.

Mário Patrão started the race with a place in the Top 10 of the prologue, and it was precisely when he was fighting for the 7th/8th place that he suffered a strong fall, which did not allow the rider, also sponsored by HOTEL ABRIGO DA MONTANHA, to continue the competition.

The demanding and hardness of the track foresaw a difficult day that for Mário Patrão was particularly memorable:

"At this moment only discouragement and frustration are in my head, the race had a hardness that I can't remember in this type of competitions. I was going at a very fast pace, which conditioned my early exit, with the bike and physique quite damaged. I was at the risk-taking stage and unfortunately luck was not on my side. I fell very violently, having even undone my protection material", reveals the pilot supported by SEIA's Town Hall, who adds: "I went to the race with the triumph in Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura, the opening day of the Baja FIM European Championship held in Badajoz, and unfortunately I couldn't keep that place. Now we have to recover and continue the preparation for the upcoming races."
