Baja Portalegre 500 2022: Alentejo is getting ready to once again receive Portugal's largest race

 36th edition of the event organized by Automóvel Club de Portugal is just a few weeks away, and will be will be held between the 27th and 29th of October. The Baja Portalegre 500 2022 will be valid for FIA Cross Country Bajas World Cup and the FIM Bajas World Cup, in addition to the Portuguese Cross Country Rally Championships both of FPAK (cars) and FMP (motos, quads and ssv)
The event organized by Automóvel Club de Portugal will be the final event for the Portuguese Championships and will be decisive to find several national Champions.
The 2022 Baja Portalegre will cross the municipalities of Portalegre, Ponte de Sor, Abrantes, Alter do Chão, Chamusca, Crato, Gavião, Monforte and Nisa.
Like on previous years, the Service Park for both Autos and Bikes will be located by the Rally HQ, at Nerpor, in Portalegre’s Industrial Area.

For the cars, the race program will follow a similar partern as in the previous years, starting on friday with the very traditional prologue near Portalegre, with just 5 km long. Still on friday, the participants will have to travel to Ponte de Sor, around 60kms west to Portalegre, for them to race 70km long SS1 that will bring them back to the host city. On Saturday two 200 km long stages wait for the participants, that despite beind drawn in a well know area that is used for long time, will still present some new "features". The race is expected to be fast and demanding, specially due to the terrain conditions, very dry and hard until now, and if the weather conditions don't change until the race day, the dust could become a problem for many.

For the Motorbikes, Quads and SSV racing under the FMP rules, the race program will be similar to the car programe on friday, both with the special stage and SS1 from Ponte de Sor to Portalegre, but on Saturday things become more interesting. While the cars will have to stage with a stop in the midle, all the others will have on the menu a 350km long, which in theory couldn't not look so much, but in the demanding terrain of Alto Alentejo this can be a real challenge, either for the "pros" that will have be allways full thortle if they really wish a good place, and also for the rest that don't have the rhytim so well tunned and soon will find what really means 350km on Portalegre tracks.
