Baja TT ACP 2020: Nuno Matos ready to fight on the new Portuguese race

BAJA TT ACP will be a "test in real conditions" for THE FIAT Fullback

One month after the 1st race of the 2020 Portuguese Cross-Country Rallies Championship, Nuno Matos already has his next challenge on the horizon, the Baja TT ACP Santiago-Grândola, on the 7th and 8th of March.

An unprecedented event on the calendar that the Portuguese driver praises right away:

“It is excellent for the championship to have a new race, especially with the ACP's quality seal. It is good for the sport, for us drivers, for teams, partners, in short, for everyone involved ”, he stressed.

With 254 kilometers of timed extension, the biggest highlight is the type of route, with competitors competing for half the distance in stretches of sand, a debut compared to the traditionally known costumes in the events that usually receive the competition. 

“It is something we look forward to. It is not possible for now to know what it may imply in terms of driving and difficulty, what percentage of sand we will actually find on the roads. But we all started on an equal footing, which I believe may contribute to generating some surprises in the classification ” said Matos, who will have the airline pilot Joel Lutas as his co-driver.

The team is still a bit anxious, because:

"In the first race, we had some engine problems that conditioned us. We hope to have everything solved by now. However, until now we couldn't do a proper test with the car before the race, but are still trying to do it.  In this context, its very likelly that the big test will be at the race itself. The competition remains very strong, but we believe that, if we have no problems, we can show good progress again. The motivation is still intact ”, said the driver officially supported by Rally-Raid Network

The race will take place on the 7th and 8th of March. The first day, Saturday, has a Prologue of 4 kilometers and two Selective Sectors, of 60 and 50 kilometers, respectively. The last day, Sunday, ends with the largest sector of the event, a section of timed 140 kilometers.
