Baja TT Montes Alentejanos 2021: António Maio wins in the bikes and Luís Fernandes in the quads,

At the arrival of the race visibly satisfied with the competition, António Maio pointed out that

"it was a very nice race. I loved these courses and the organization is to be congratulated for the choice of route. We entered with the right foot in the first race of the national championship and it's always important because we gain a different spirit to face the rest of the season. But that was our goal, that is, to arrive at the first race as strong as possible. We did a good pre-season which made us arrive here, both me and the bike, in conditions to compete in this competition which was a lot of fun. Now I'm already focused on the next race that will take place in 15 days in Loulé".

Bruno Santos (Husqvarna) finished in the second position of the Alentejo's race disputed today under a milder climate than the one registered yesterday, in which heat and dust reigned, Bruno Santos (Husqvarna) who spent 3m30s more than the race winner. Gustavo Gaudêncio, on Honda, returning to the competitions after a six-year break, completed the Montes Alentejanos Baja TT podium.

The first three classified were also the winners of their respective classes: Gustavo Gaudêncio (TT1), António Maio (TT2) and Bruno Santos (TT3).

João Duarte (Yamaha) was the winner among the Juniors, Óscar Miguel Teixeira (Beta) was the fastest among the veterans, Filipe Fragoso (Yamaha) won the Promotion class and Janaina Souza, on a Honda, triumphed among the ladies.

Luis Fernandes (Yamaha) was the best among the quad riders and left Fábio Ferreira, winner of yesterday's prologue, 2m35s behind. Rafael Carvalho was third, 18m33s from the winner, and also triumphed among the promotion teams. José Galhofas won among the veterans.

Luís Fernandes reveals

"I feel very good. I came here to win and I did. We got to the end with an impeccable bike. My mechanic did a spectacular job. The bike is perfect. This last part, especially the last 10 kilometers, which corresponded to the prologue part, were a little tough, the terrain was already very broken and it was difficult to hold the bike, but we managed to ride fast and reach the end with the first place, which is the most important. We will celebrate with all the team that came to help me. They are also part of this victory, the victory of all of us".

 
As for the expectations for the CNTT Road to Dakar, the quad winner adds:

"Now we have the victory of the Championship in our sights. Last year, I think the lack of experience dictated, in a certain way, the final result: "I fell many times and committed some exaggerations that could have been unnecessary. This year, with more head and experience we will try to reach the top positions in every race."
