António Maio (Moto), João Vale (Quad) are already champions
Martim Ventura, on Yamaha bikes, Luís Fernandes, also on Yamaha, on quad and the duo João Monteiro/Nuno Morais, on Can-Am were the big winners of the Baja TT Sharish Gin Reguengos Mourão, the sixth round of the 2022 Cross-Country Portuguese Championship, which took place in tracks of Reguengos, Redondo and Mourão.
With 170 pilots starting, distributed by Motorcycles, Quads, SSV and the very popular Hobby class which includes the Trophy for local pilots that this year was extended to Mourão, the race organized by the SAR motor racing section prepared for its 34th edition a competition spread over three days and a total of 360 timed kilometers. To the traditional tracks of Reguengos de Monsaraz were now added 40 km of very fast stretches in Mourão where the prologue, with which this competition started, also took place.
SSV: João Monteiro wins and the title is postponed to Portalegre
The Sharish Gin TT Baja started with the duo Luís Cidade/Pedro Mendonça getting the best mark, spending 2,9s less than the young Gonçalo Guerreiro. Luís Portela Morais was 3rd fastest and surprisingly the 4th fastest time for former Portuguese champion Rui Serpa in a Can-Am Stock. Herlander Araújo closed the top 5.
The next day in SS1 the duo João Monteiro / Nuno Morais in Can-Am registered the best time by spending 2h29m26 to cover the 175 km of stretch taking the lead of the race with an advantage of 1m08s. Pedro Santinho Mendes was the 2nd fastest and climbed to that position in the general classification ahead of the duo Luís Cidade/Pedro Mendonça and Gonçalo Guerreiro, who led among the Juniors. The four were then separated by 1m40s. David Rodrigues occupied the 5th position after Herlander Araújo who was in that position and was penalized for having been recorded several times above the limit of 140 km / h maximum speed allowed by regulation for these vehicles.
In the last day of the race Pedro Santinho Mendes, JB Racing's pilot, was the fastest, but the victory was not enough to keep João Monteiro and Nuno Morais, from the SHARISH GIN/SOUTH RACING team, away from their first victory in this season. The two former Portuguese champions finished separated by 40.7s. This final 175km section saw Gonçalo Guerreiro being the 3rd fastest and ended in the last place on the podium of the general classification of the Alentejo race ahead of the duo Roberto Borrego/Nuno Abrantes, which in SS2 was just 7.1s from Pedro Santinho Mendes. Gonçalo Guerreiro won among the Juniors and reduced the difference that separates him from the Portuguese champion in the fight for this season's title that will be defined at Baja Portalegre 500. Roberto Borrego, on the other hand, recovered from the 8th place he occupied at the end of SS1 and, with the 4th place, he minimized the lost to his direct opponent.
With Luís Cidade being forced to abandon due to a gearbox problem and David Rodrigues also out of the race, Marco Pereira navigated by Eurico Adão took the Can-Am to the 5th place and triumphed among the veterans. 6th place for an always very fast Luís Portela Morais in preparation for higher flights at the international level. Next positions for two veterans: Nuno Fontes and Arnaldo Monteiro, here accompanied by João Dias. Completing the top 10 were the duos Emanuel Luz, with Soraia Chambel, and André Rodrigues with Ricardo Porto Nunes. Emanuel Luz coming from the Trial is giving his first steps in the CNTT while the experienced duo that already won, among others, the Yamaha Cup, got in Reguengos the victory among the ones competing in the Bajas European Cup.
The duo Rui Serpa/Nuno Guilherme, who had stood out in the prologue, continued in excellent plan and the former Portuguese champion took the Can-Am to the victory in the Stock Class. Dorothee Ferreira also won among the ladies and the duo Duarte and Nuno Silva, triumphed in the TT2 Category. This son and father duo, entered by Franco Sport, was also the winner of the Yamaha YXZ 1000R Cup, beating Octávio and Miguel Martins, also registered by Franco Sport.
