Baja TT Vindimas do Alentejo, which after the misfortune of last September, was forced to be postponed for reasons of force majeure, for the next 7, 8 and 9 February, will have the honors of being the first event of the Portuguese Cross-Country Rallies Championship (CPTT) for cars. It will also have motos, quads, and SSV, but for these three categories, the race will be extra-championship
Organized by CPKA - Club Promoção de Karting e Automobilismo in partnership with Sociedade Artística Reguenguense, it has Humberto Silva as President of the organization that organized the event. For the season ahead, Humberto Silva has no doubt that expectations are quite high. "It is fantastic that Baja TT Vindimas do Alentejo, in its first edition, has the privilege of being the first event of the 2020 Portugal Off-Road Championship. We hope it will prove to be a pleasure for everyone the pilots, this being the main objective of this Baja ".
More than a change in dates, for 2020, the race has undergone some improvements, with changes in much of the route.
"Given that the route is very fast and varied, we managed to develop a good mix of the track, interspersed with some slow areas due to the winter weather conditions, which will imply having some water".
Having overcome the objective, it is time to think further. "We want to internationalize the race, given that several Spanish drivers have also registered to enter the race ".
In terms of entries, there are a total of 63 SSV listed, the category with most participants, with the presence of Pedro Santinho Mendes, the current Portuguese champion. But many more are ready to race on Alentejo's roads, including Pedro Carvalho, João Monteiro, João Dias, Luís Cidade and the Portuguese quad champion, Beto Borrego that just moved to the category. Of note is the debut in SSV of Carlos Vieira, Portuguese Rally Champion in 2017, and the participation of Rúben Faria, Monster Energy Honda Team director and the man who led Honda to victory in the Dakar 2020.
In the motobikes there are 36 competitors, also including the local champion Daniel Jordão and the second classified Salvador Vargas, two riders who in 2019 fought until the last race for the title. Among the Quads there are 11 registrants, of which the participation of Luís Engeitado, who fought for the title until the end, together with Beto Borrego.
For the cars the race will be more serious, as this will be the first event of the Portuguese Cross-Country Rallies Championship 2020. In total there are 53 participants, including the title older Tiago Reis, Nuno Matos, the Rally-Raid Network official representant, Alejandro Martins racing in his brand new X-Rad Mini, João Ramos in Toyota Hilyx and Alexandre Ré who will be racing a South Racing Can-Am.
Baja TT Vindimas do Alentejo starts at 10:00 on Friday with the usual optional technical and administrative checks. In the evening, the departure ceremony will take place, which will take place in Beja Park of Fairs and Exhibitions. For Saturday the race continues with the prologue Argasclim, which will consist of 5.7 kilometers and then the 1st Selective Sector will be held, which will have 151 kilometers in length. Baja TT Vindimas do Alentejo is completed on Sunday with a 2nd SS of 150 km, accounting for a total of 376.71km.
