Hungarian Baja 2019: Hungary brings FIM Cross-Country Bajas World Cup to a close

Fifteen days after Baja Spain Aragón, Hungary will crown the new winners of the motorcycle, quad, women’s and junior categories in the FIM Cross-Country Bajas World Cup.
This year, the small town of Várpalota - located around 20 km from Vezprém and in close proximity to the famous Lake Balaton - is home to the Hungarian Baja.
Over the three days, 15 entrants in the FIM Cross-Country Bajas World Cup (including four women and three juniors) and three quad entries will travel more than 800km, including 588km in timed special stages on dirt tracks through woods and fields, in this beautiful region of Eastern Europe.
Benjamin Melot (53 points) has a good lead over the Polish rider Jakub Piatek (30 points) after three rounds of the FIM Cross Country Bajas World Cup for motorcycles. Despite this, the Frenchman cannot rest on his laurels and will have to stay focused to finish on top in the final classification.
Last year, victory at the Hungarian Baja went to Stefan Svitko (KTM) and the Slovakian will be keen to repeat that feat on this occasion.
The Al-Balooshi brothers, Mohammed and Sultan, have also made the trip from the UAE to close out the season, as has the young Chilean rider Tomas de Gavardo (KTM). He leads the Junior standings with 54 points, ahead of India's Ayshwarya Pissay (Sherco). Team Orlen's two Polish Juniors, Maciej Giemza and Adam Tomicek, will also be taking part.
Ayshwarya Pissay (Sherco) tops the women's standings with 52 points and is seven clear of the Portuguese Rita Viera, who has 45 points. Sara Garcia holds third place after Spain and will still have a say, as will Rosa Romero.

Aleksandr Maksimov on the right side
In the quad category, Aleksandr Maksimov (Yamaha) remains on course for the title with 43 points. The Russian still needs to finish the race because second-placed Juraj Varga (Yamaha) has 27 points.
On Friday, riders pass through administrative and technical checks and will tackle a 7.3km super special stage at the end of the afternoon.
The outcome will determine the starting order for the first loop stage of 208km on Saturday morning.
