HunGarian Baja 2021: The countdown has started – recording the stages of HunGarian Baja is underway

After a one-year hiatus full-scale operation has commenced, preparations are underway before HunGarian Baja, Hungarian round of Cross Country Rally World Cup, Zoltán Garamvölgyi, Chief Organizer and his team have started to make notes of the stages. Specification for the motorbikes has already been set, while the one for cars is waiting for FIA approval. 

‘It is a huge pleasure that we are able to organize the race and finally, we return’ Garamvölgyi says, and promises a great race in and around Várpalota on 5-8 August. 

Alike 2 years ago the race will begin with a spectacular starting ceremony at the renewed Main Square of Várpalota. There will be a qualification stage on Friday as a kind of warm-up, then the real battle will take place with two 140-150-km stages on Saturday and two 80-km stages on Sunday

However, it’s good news that all actions will be staged at the shooting range, which is very popular among the competitors.

‘Stony gravel stages can be expected with many jumps in a beautiful environment’ Garamvölgyi admits and adds that many are interested in the event, but it is too early to tell anything about the field.
While the competitors have to adjust to the ever-changing regulations, the organizers must cope with the Covid protocol that is mandatory at each major international event.

According to the applicable regulations, the competitors can enter the country by showing an invitation letter issued by the organizers, certainly subject to meeting the appropriate pandemic regulations.

Regarding the cars, the 2021 HunGarian Baja will be valid for the Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Championship and also for FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Baja. As for the motorbikes,  the 18th HunGarian Baja 2021 will be the 7th Round of the FIM Bajas World Cup 2021. The World Cup will be run in parallel with the International Open Baja Cup (Bike, Quad), with FIM competitors starting in first place for the special stages.

The program for cars and motorbikes is similar, with the opening of the service park taking place on the 4th of August for the teams to install themselves. The administrative checks will take place on the next day. On Friday it will take place the shakedown and ceremonial start, as also the 7.38km prologue to "warm-up" men and machine and also order the participants by their speed. 
On Saturday, the longest day of the race, the participants will face a  double run over the Stigibácsi stage with 138,46km long, making the total of 276.92 racing kilometers just on this day.

On the following morning, two more stages should be raced, but this time over the shorter 78.69km special starting in Gyulafiratot, totalizing 157.36km for the final day.

In total, the participants of the 18th Hungarian Baja should have 441,66 kilometers to prove themselves and try to arrive in the first place to the end.

Entries can be submitted on an electronic entry application (Internet) on the organisers’ website www.hungarianbaja.com. The original duly signed entry form must reach the organisers within 5 days following the close of entries.
