Hungarian Baja 2021: focus on T3 and T4 categories - Final day

The final day of Hungarian Baja 2021 consisted of two special stages of 83.3 km each, which were practically the longer track of Saturday in the opposite direction. 

T3 (light prototipe vehicles) SS6

SS6, the penultimate special of the rally, turned into drama for overall leader Santi Navarro (ESP, Overdrive OT3), who was hit by technical problems, so close to the victory. Following Navarro’s problems, Jesus Fuster (ESP, Herrator HRX3) won the stage 14 minutes 59 seconds ahead of Dania Akeel (SAU, RM Sport Mamba) and thus took the lead also in the overall classification.

T4 (light standard vehicles) SS6

Among T4 vehicles, Alexandre Re (PRT, Can-Am) further strengthened his lead in SS6. After running into problems yesterday, Saleh Al-Saif (SAU, Can-AM) finally managed to show his real speed clocking the second-best time, 1’43” behind the Portuguese. Third to finish was Pavel Silnov (RUS, Can-Am) with a 2’21” gap, followed by Miguel Angel Valero (ESP, VM) at 3’02”, Ievgen Kovalevich (UKR, Can-Am) at 6’28”, Mshari Al-Thefiri (KWT, Can-Am) at 8’41”, and Amerigo Ventura (ITA, Yamaha). Claude Fournier didn’t finish the special.

Alexandre Re: 

“Today we drove yesterday’s stage, the long one, in the opposite direction, I thought it would be difficult but I enjoyed it more. We are here, we lost some places yesterday and some time, but we are leading the T4 category, so it’s OK. There are some crazy bumps, but this is race and I enjoy it.”

Jaqueline Ricci: 

"We have already done the first sector today and it went quite well, the only thing was that in the final part it was difficult to overtake the car in front of us and we lost a lot of time there. But we did it very well without mistakes and with a good pace. The track is very broken because it is the track of the previous day but in the opposite direction, but it is really fun. We think we have done very well and now we are going for the last one".

Mshari Al-Thefiri: 

“We had a puncture in the first stage today, 8 km after the start, but we fought to continue the stage. Now we are fourth, we have a four-minute gap to the second position. We will fight in the next stage and we’ll see what happens.”

Nasser Al-Kuwari:

“We had a puncture after 8 km, we changed the tyre, but we lost a lot of time as the jack didn’t work properly. We lost around seven minutes. Now we are fourth in T4, and four minutes and a half from the second place, so we will push hard, we’ll try to catch the second or the third. We’ll go flat out and we will see what happens.”
