Portuguese driver Fernando Barreiros presented his sports project for 2021 

A 100% International Season

The small town of Olhalvo, a parish in the municipality of Alenquer in Portugal, was the stage chosen by Fernando Barreiros for the presentation of his sports project for this year and the beginning of 2022 with the Isuzu D-Max T2.

Winner of the Iberian Trophy in 2019 and 2nd place in the Africa Eco Race 2020, in both cases in Category T2, Fernando Barreiros presented a program focused on the defense of the Iberian title, a competition that did not take place in 2020, and on competing in the races of the all-terrain championship of Spain. A program that will culminate with the return to Africa in 2022.

"First of all, I want to thank everyone who has supported me and especially the sponsors for continuing to bet on this ambitious project. We will do everything to repay that trust. The participation in the Spanish Championship has something to do with it given the strong presence of Orlen Oil and Oli in the neighboring country. The defense of the Iberian title is also an obvious option. It's important to mention that in these races I'll have Sérgio Cerveira by my side in the Iberian Cup and Carlos Silva in the Spanish Championship, two renowned navigators who will surely contribute to the success of our sporting performances.
Our project contemplates the return to Africa after an excellent and very successful first experience. We will follow the evolution of the pandemic situation to better define this participation.", said Fernando Barreiros.

The event also had the extra incentive of providing the winner of a contest, which took place between March 27th and April 5th, with a fantastic co-drive aboard the magnificent Isuzu D-Max driven by Fernando Barreiros.

The question was not easy, but those who follow Fernando Barreiros' career closely and managed to get it right. In fact, the current Iberian Trophy for Cross-Country Rallies's first race (T2 Class) was at the wheel of a Suzuki Vitara in 1997, in a race where he had João Santos as co-driver and where the duo couldn't take the car mostly made in their home garage to the finish line. The first completed race took place in the then 1997 Raid TT Esporão Vindimas, at that time already with Rui Costa by Fernando Barreiros' side.

Flávia Carneiro, who admirably follows the pilot's career, was the winner, thus having the desired opportunity to experience from the inside the sensation of riding in a competition vehicle. As the winner, she also received a copy number 1/50 of the limited edition of the book "Fernando Barreiros - 50 years of adventures", authored by journalist Alexandre Correia.
