Lucerna SCORE Baja 400 2019: Sourapas Brothers Team Up For Inaugural SCORE-International Baja 400

First Trophy Truck off starting line in race to set Baja 1000 grid

For the first time in their off-road careers, twins Brett and Christian Sourapas will team up in the same Trophy Truck in September 18-22’s inaugural Lucerna SCORE Baja 400. Sharing the #88 Coors Light Geiser Bros. AWD Trophy Truck, the Sourapas brothers drew the right to be first off the line when the action starts next Saturday.

“Christian and I have always dreamed about getting an overall at the Baja 1000,” said Brett Sourapas. “I remember looking through all the old pictures of my dad getting the overall at the 1985 Baja 1000 in a limited vehicle. Seeing him reminisce on that exact moment and how much it meant to him, makes my brother and I hungry to share that same feeling my dad and Dave Richardson felt 34 years ago.”

“I am well aware that I have a reputation for being a psycho driver, but I want to show that I have matured and can control my need for speed to race strategically and be disciplined,” added Christian Sourapas. “Like Matt Martelli says, ‘There is no trophy for leading the race to race mile 100!’ My brother and I are here to prove we are going to be contenders at every race, not just one race.”
Under the watchful eye of their father, 1985 Baja 1000 winner and off-road legend Steve Sourapas, Brett and Christian Sourapas have established themselves as two of the top young talents in Trophy Truck competition. At just 23 years old, both drivers have already managed overall victories in Trophy Truck events against some of the most successful drivers in the sport’s history. This year’s Baja 400 will also mark the first time that Sourapas Motorsports has run its own Trophy Truck with the brothers in SCORE competition. The Geiser Bros.-built truck won the 2014 Mint 400 and has led drivers to two Best in the Desert championships.

The inaugural Lucerna SCORE Baja 400 serves as the penultimate round of the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship. The results of the brand new event will determine the starting order within each class for November’s 52nd Annual SCORE Baja 1000, the crown jewel event of the SCORE season each year. More than 30 Trophy Trucks have registered for this year’s event, with many of the biggest names in desert racing set to get behind the wheel.
