Mexico—Confidence and respect are key ingredients in the success of someone in any field and SCORE Overall and SCORE Trophy Truck point leader Andy McMillin exudes both traits to overflowing as he prepares for November’s iconic internationally-televised season-ending BFGoodrich Tires 52nd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts—the Granddaddy of All Desert Races.
PRE-RUNNING OPENS SATURDAY
Pre-running on the official race course will open on Saturday. After the two-way section out to the Ojos Negros area, the course will run in a counter-clockwise direction down to along the Pacific Ocean and around Mike’s Sky Rancho down through Laguna Del Diablo, Morelia Junction, Matomi Wash and Amarillas Wash before heading North near San Felipe and back up through Laguna Salada, and then back down South by Santa Catarina to Ojos Negros and West on to the finish in Ensenada.
Pre-running will start at race-mile 39.1 and finish at rm765.9.
Outbound only, the first section of the race course will be open for pre-running only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of race week (Nov. 19-21).

McMILLIN MAGIC
Following his voracious victories in the 33rd SCORE San Felipe 250 and the 51st SCORE Baja 500 along with his second place finish in a brand new race truck at the Inaugural Lucerna SCORE Baja 400, San Diego’s ‘youthful’ veteran champion desert racer Andy McMillin continues to lead the SCORE Overall and the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck season point standings after three events in the four-race 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship.
With five career overall victories in this legendary race, McMillin, a third-generation desert racer at 32, said, “It’s been a great year for our team so far. I wish we could be going into the SCORE Baja 1000 with three wins in a row, but we came up a little bit short at the SCORE Baja 400 in September. We have a lot of confidence going into the biggest race of the year, the SCORE Baja 1000, and that’s always a key ingredient to success going into this race.”
Andy McMillin finished second behind Ryan Arciero in the SCORE Baja 400 in a field of 189 starters for the first-time race including 36 in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division for high-tech, 950-horsepower unlimited custom trucks. McMillin, who has 11 career SCORE Trophy Truck race wins, drives the No. 31 McMillin Racing Mason Motorsports-built all-wheel drive Chevy Silverado and has a dominating 330 season point total after his twin wins and one second place.
52nd SCORE BAJA MIL
The SCORE Baja 1000 endures at the pinnacle of motorsports as the most iconic, oldest, prestigious, toughest and longest continuously held desert race in the world.
This year’s epic BFGoodrich Tires 52nd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, will start and finish in the heart of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico with race-week festivities and the race itself being held Nov. 19-24.
Still early in the online registration process, entries to date have come from 29 U.S. States and 15 countries.
Many of the world’s best desert racers will be in action at this year’s massive BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4Wheel Parts. The race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour special on ABC TV’s World of X Games programming.
Ensenada, “The Off-Road Capital of the World” is a coastal city on the Bahia de Todos Santos area of the Pacific Ocean, 80 miles south of the U.S. border at San Diego.
Over 250 vehicles are expected at the start line with racers from over 30 U.S. States and as many as 20 countries anticipated. Long-time SCORE sponsor BFGoodrich Tires has also posted a US$40,000 contingency bonus for the overall 4-wheel winner to help commemorate the renewal of this legendary SCORE race.
This year’s SCORE Baja 1000 will be a loop race of 800.5 miles in the northern state of Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula.
It will start for the 45th time and finish for the 26th time in Ensenada and the race is annually the finale of the four-race SCORE World Desert Championship, which has been held exclusively for the past four years on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.
The race and its festivities will be held primarily in and around the historic Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in the heart of Ensenada and the start and finish of the legendary race will be adjacent to the Riviera.
With a total time limit of 34 hours in the elapsed-time race, the motorcycle and quad classes will start at 3 a.m. (PT) on Friday, Nov. 22 and the car, truck and UTV classes will follow with their start on at 10:30 a.m. (PT). While the fastest vehicles are expected to cover the course in approximately 16 hours, all vehicles will have 34 hours from the time each starts to become an official finisher.

Included in the first 130 official entries of the more than 250 anticipated for this year’s renewal of the world’s most iconic desert race are competitors from 29 U.S. States and 15 countries.
U.S. States represented in the field of competitors to date are from Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington.
Besides the United States and host Mexico, countries represented to date in the total entry field are from Australia, Canada, Chile, Columbia, France, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru and Spain.

“The course looks fantastic,” SCORE Overall point leader Andy McMillin went on to say. “It is everything we expect in a SCORE Baja 1000. It’s going to be a great, great race. The entire course is inspirational. This is game 7 of the World Series or The Super Bowl. Everyone wants to win this race and we are going to give it everything we’ve got to win another SCORE Baja 1000.”
