RN1500 2021: In the Extreme-E style, RN1500 mixes speed with ecology and culture of the Northeast Brazil

The race for the Brazilian Cross-Country Rallies Championship will go through the scenery of Auto da Compadecida and other icons

The Jalapão Desert became part of the list of adventurers' ambitions from all over the world after the Sertões Rally was opened a few decades ago. Following the same philosophy of promoting local values, the RN1500 Rally has been held since 1994 in regions marked by the imaginary of the Northeast.

"This year we will pass through icons of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba, the idea is to disclose to promote and preserve these local attractions and beauties. A recipe that works and motivates even the rallies of the Extreme-E electric car world championship",

says Reinaldo Varela, three-time Cross-Country Rally world champion, who will compete in the race with a UTV by the Monstar Can-Am team, together with navigator Gunnar Duns.

The RN1500 will be the second stage of the Brazilian Cross-Country Championship. The Monstar Can-Am team will also participate with UTVs of the duo Bruno Varela/Gabriel Morales and Gabriel Varela/Filipe Bianchini, which is the leader in the UTV1 category:

"The beauty of the tracks is one of the attractions, as it happened in Jalapão, but a special detail this year is the fact that we will pass by places where iconic films of the national cinema were recorded", Reinaldo Varela says.

Cinema in the Northeast -

"These are the cases of Parelhas and Carnaúba dos Dantas, both in Rio Grande do Norte, settings for the award-winning "Bacurau" and "O homem que desafiou o diabo"; as well as Cabaceiras, in Paraíba, where the famous and iconic "O Auto da Compadecida" was shot. This is further proof that a sport like ours can extrapolate, benefit, and interact with other important areas of society," says the driver from the Monstar Can-Am team.

As has happened in 23 editions, the race will offer participants a route made up of "the worst and the best of the region," as highlighted by driver Gabriel Varela:

"We'll have sandy ground, rocks, jumps, big ditches. We will cross streams, ride long distances at high speed and without contact with civilization. Some scenarios will be intimidating, like a lunar landscape. Others have the beauty of a tropical paradise. This is everything a good rally needs to have," says the leader of the UTV1 category.

The Monster Can-Am team competes with support from Norton, Arisun Pneus, Techbond, Motul and Blindarte.
